It did take a special CO2 sublimation cooling unit that carries the danger of suffocating you if you use it in a small room, but what the hey. With a liquid nitrogen cooling system the chip was easily pushed way over 5 gigs. You may think "yeah, I could overclock anything with that stuff!" but it should be noted that with fairly normal high-end air-cooling the chips could get up to 4GHz. It'll be interesting to watch AMD's battle with Intel's i7 play out. [PCPerspective]

<![CDATA[World Record Broken for 5GHz Wi-Fi Distance]]> A new world record has been set for 5GHz Wi-Fi transmission distance. One group was based in Italy and one in Sardinia, at a distance of 188.89 miles. The record was broken by the Italian Center for Radio Activities and Ubiquiti Networks, which provided some of the necessary gadgets.

The connection maintained a transfer rate of 5Mbps, by using Ubiquiti's XtremeRange5 High-Power Carrier Class mini-PCI radio module, and some parabolic antennas. [Gizmag]

<![CDATA[Liquid Nitrogen Keeps Overclocked 5GHz CPU from Cooking]]> Chances are you won't be seeing this kind of action from your friend's overclocked system, but the crew at Universal ABIT showed off a Core 2 Extreme X6800 CPU overclocked from 2.93GHz to 5GHz. The CPU was churning out Pi calculations while keeping cool with liquid nitrogen. The purpose was to show off their new AB9 QuadGT motherboard (and how cool liquid nitrogen can make your PC look).
