my friends ipod is more or less "OK" while the treo is just in standby, but once we sync versamail (outlook for treos) or use the bluetooth, the volume goes nuts and shoots up and down. not good for the ears. not good at all.
Anybody else have a possessed Treo, or is this the lone case? Maybe it is a message secretly meaning that Palm will be creating and releasing the Apple phone.

<![CDATA[Dealzmodo: Treo 680 Free After Rebate]]> treo680side2.jpgCingular may not be giving out free Treos, but that doesn't stop other retailers from doing it. MyTreo is offering a Treo 680 for free after 2 year contract and MIR, or $39 after MIR if you're a current customer (you have to extend your service).

Not bad if you've been wanting to jump on board the Treo train.

<![CDATA[Palm Treo 680: Nov. 24, $199 (But "Nothing Really Groundbreaking")]]>
Ending eons of speculation, Cingular and Palm have finally given us the damn release date and price of the Treo 680: November 24 for $199 with a two-year contract. The 680 can also be purchased, unlocked, directly from Palm's Web site for $399. Ordering it from there also lets you choose from one of four different colors.

As luck would have it, Mobility Today got their hands on a review unit and have blessed the world with a fairly in-depth video review. Of note is the return of the SD card slot and, yes, a new battery. As you already probably know, it's really just a simplified Treo for the everyman. If you are an everyman, though, it's probably not a bad choice to break your smartphone cherry.

<![CDATA[Palm Treo 680 Shows Up On Amazon]]> For those of you who are interested in a slightly cheaper Palm OS smartphone in the form of a Treo 680 (some of you are, apparently), Amazon popped up both a pre-order page and a price. Unfortunately, the $413 price tag was taken down rather quickly—maybe it was wrong—but the page is still there.

This is the unlocked GSM version from overseas, not the Cingular-sponsored version which should be much, much less than $413. Features: GSM, EDGE, VGA cam, QWERTY, 312MHz Intel PXA270 processor. But if you're going to be paying four hundred bucks for a low-end phone, we'd much rather you liquify that money, pour it into a syringe and shoot it directly into your eyeball.

<![CDATA[Treo 680 Possibly Launching on Cingular For Free]]> Crunchgear has a tip that the low-end Treo 680 may be launching on Cingular for free, but with a catch. Apparently Palm's lack of carrier announcement during their Treo 680 launch apparently was due to problems trying to find a carrier who will carry the phone.

Cingular seems to be a likely candidate, subsidizing the 680 down to a skeletal $0, but requiring you to sustain a $30 internet plan for the entirety of your two-year contract. T-Mobile may also be a contender, but wants WiFi on the Treo in order to pimp their hotspots or work with their upcoming home VoIP program. Either way, Palm had better work fast to get these into the hands of consumers.

<![CDATA[Palm Treo 680: You Care, I Eat Crow]]> I said I didn't care about the new-ish Palm Treo 680 that seemed to be little more than a colored Treo 700 with a few tweaks, and its antenna chopped off. Against my judgement, many of you voted that you were excited for the shitty little budget smartphone. I feel sorry for you, because you are wrong to care. But I also wonder, since the price hasn't been announced, and the Treo 700 is about $250 with a contract, how much would you pay for one of these things?

I mean, they're very similar, stat wise, so how much cheaper could they be? Our guess is $199.

<![CDATA[Palm Treo 680: Who Cares?]]>

Ok, amidst all the buzz of the new Palm device, I'm sitting here, googling and studying stat pages, wondering whether or not we should care about the Treo 680. Compared to the 700p, it has a similar processor, screen, OS, with double the amount of RAM (64MB vs 32MB), the same amount of internal storage (64MB vs. 62MB), but lower res camera (640 by 480 vs 1280 by 1024). The case is the same size, but now without an external antenna. Sure, they're GSM models, so you're likely to see these phones on US carriers like T Mobile and Cingular. And they come in 3 new colors: white, orange, and red. I understand its supposed to be lower end, but I still expect more from Palm than taking a setup we're known for a year and making it a few bucks cheaper. Is this innovation? Do you care about the 680?

<![CDATA[Palm Announces Low-End Treo 680]]> As expected, Palm has just announced the low-end Treo 680 for GSM markets sold unlocked in four colors: crimson, copper, arctic and graphite. In non-marketing speak, that's red, orange, white and silver. Each of these phones come with a 320x320 color screen, 64MB of internal storage, 312MHz Intel PXA270 processor, quad-band GSM, EDGE class 10, speakerphone, VGA camera, 352x288 video recording, and a full QWERTY keypad. Software includes an MP3 player, threaded IM software, and various other PalmOS compatible apps.

No pricing or availability yet, but since it's GSM, that rules out Verizon and Sprint. As always, we'll update as we know more. Here's all our Treo coverage to get familiar with the platform.

<![CDATA[Palm Announcing New Treos Thursday, Oct. 12]]> Will the new Treos be the lowbie 680? Or will it be an entirely new, super Treo that blows everything else out of the water? We'll find out on Thursday when Ed Colligan spills the beans.

We're going with lowbie Treos, but we've been surprised before.

<![CDATA[Lowbie Palm Treo 680 Confirmed]]> Well, I was completely unaware that Palm was capable of making a low-end phone, but it is true. The 680 will be available worldwide, and the only confirmed detail is that it will include a VGA camera. Uh, VGA—yeah this phone is going to suck. It will be roughly the same size of the 750v. Uberphones is suggesting that this lowbie will lack any of the nice traditional features of Treo smartphone like push e-email, 3G, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. That's a damn shame—it better be freaking cheap.
