@Killjoy: Oh, yes, Zombie, Run! After a conversation about this game with a youth leader at our local church, she had me adapt the game to be a live-action scavenger hunt wherein some some of the 20-somethings in our group volunteered to dress up as Zombies and attempt to attack or capture the kids.
That's right. Because of this game, I got to be a zombie. And attack children. At a church.
@OCEntertainment: When Android was first announced, I liked the news that programmers would have open(ish) access to the hardware and software. The more tinkerers you accommodate, the more Zombie, Run!s you'll wind up with.
And thanks for the mental image: I can't think of many community-organized activity programs better than church zombies preying on kids.
@Bueller: Yes, I have three gmail accounts. I think that you can also use exchange to push mail from 10 accounts total. I'll research that just to be sure.
How many email accounts do DROID devices support? Unlimited accounts are supported with the understanding that the more accounts checked on the device means the device memory and battery are filled faster.
I'd disagree that a task manager is mandatory for keeping an Android phone speedy. I used to run TasKiller on my Hero, but uninstalled it after doing some research, and haven't seen any performance drop. Something about the way Linux allocates memory and handles background processes...
@cc82: The general consensus is that killing tasks makes no difference in speed, and some who run task killer programs end up with glitches. There were those who were running a task killer app and because they kept killing their background email programs they ended up screwing up their email accounts.
I ran a task killer for a few days and I got rid of it after udating to 2.0.1... I don't even notice it's gone. The phone is fast, period. No need for a task killer in my opinion.
And now that I associate that mark with a smile and not an arrow, it looks like the Amazon logo is smirking at me. Or possibly trying to hit on me. Thanks.
@OCEntertainment: Strange...I had always thought the amazon logo was smiling at me, which I found weird. Now I realize it is an arrow pointing from A to Z...I wonder how many other idiots are out there like me thinking amazon was smiling at them.
@Yinzers Are People Too: A good graphic artist will be able to do that. Hide multiple interpretations in the same logo.
The FedEx logo is the classic example. A simple, easy to identify five-letter, two-color word that you always recognize. Then you see the arrow. And your life is never the same again.
@nachobel: Right below the text box, there's an image icon. Click it. You can either upload an image or link to one you found in a Google image search.
I've had trouble with uploading in the past, though if that happens, just use imageshack and then link to it.
@Killjoy: It's the empty space between the E and the X.
It uses the negative space to create a shape. Some people see it, others don't. Fortunately, the logo works either way. However, because it's so cleverly sort-of hidden, you end up talking about it. Which is a nice bonus for the marketing team.
Awesome! I just installed it and it works like a charm! Can't wait to take it for a spin tomorrow :)
EDIT: BTW the instructions above did NOT help me on Windows 7 64-bit; here's a guide on how to install it from the phone's Terminal Emulator (Credit to Paul22000 from XDA):
A) Place 3 files on sdcard (build.prop, build.trout.prop, Maps.apk)
So do you have to adb into the phone in order for this to work? I hate having to slog through countless pages of "omg it's not working halp" and "yes it is, you're just dumb" posts to FINALLY get to the part where someone lays out how to initiate the darn thing.
@FooSchnickens - BPH Free: Ok, looks like I got it working. It does use ADB to push everything to the phone so be sure you have the drivers on your computer before you start.
Now all I need is a car adapter that will also work with the phone's sound output and I'm all set. My iPod is feeling more and more obsolete these days. It's kind sad. :( #googlemapsnavigationg1
@00000000: Seems to work just like the review giz posted earlier this month. I agree on the voice being a bit grating at times, but it gets the job done. It even knew the secret back way I use to get to work that avoids all the traffic.
I'll have to fiddle with it some more this weekend whilst running some errands. #googlemapsnavigationg1
Well, that pretty much decides it for me. I'm waiting it out to see if the G1 will get an official update, but if the other phones get it and the G1ers don't, I'm going back to rooting.
XDA, Cyanogen, and all the others: God bless you, you princes of Android, you kings of new software. #googlemapsnavigationg1
@OCEntertainment: I've more or less given up on "official" releases after seeing what the likes of cyanogen and jesusfreke can do in only a few day's time after they hit the airwaves. #googlemapsnavigationg1
@nutbastard: Yup. If you do everything right, you have a virtual romantic evening with a hott e-lady-of-the-night. If you screw up, you get the same virtual romance holodeck experience except your virtual pee pee cannot get an e-rection, and you are virtually humiliated. And then when you try to explain it to her, she just laughs at you for telling a pair of glasses that you've just had too much wine. #ar
@NightInfinity: Yes, that was a concept video, but I'm very happy to hear that it's been put to real life application at last. I think this is one of the better immediate uses for AR tech.
As something like an engine is assembled in a relatively standard way, it should be easy for the software to recognize parts, and what it is looking at - I also think it would be pretty easy to slap a sticker with a glyph onto parts to ID them and give a little orientation data to a system like this if needed. #ar
Problem is that mechanics need their hands to be able to go in tight spots.
Hell, what happens when you slip trying to loosen/tighten something and break it? "Guess I'm not fixing this today!" . How about how easy it'll be to smuggle these to the enemy? lol! #ar
@CoHPhasor: They're written at an eight grade English level. How much easier can you get? Though you have a point, half the shit I used to have to fix on aircraft way never in a good place to stick your hands. You usually ended up doing it by feel, then using an inspection mirror to see if you did it right. That's the problem with engineers, they don't have to work on the stuff they draw up on paper. Yes, my aircraft was designed on paper, not computers..... #ar
