Interesting right? More interesting: Leonard Riggio, chairman of B&N and director of Gamestop just dumped $60 million in Gamestop stock. The last time he did this, it preceded bad financial news for Gamestop, so it's curious, to say the least.

An analyst told Barron's that "He's got a lot bigger stake in Barnes & Noble. Clearly he thinks selling GameStop is better than selling Barnes & Noble." One could definitely say that. [Barron's via GamaSutra via Kotaku]

<![CDATA[GameStop's Black Friday Ad Leaked]]> Our friends at Kotaku managed to get their hands on the GameStop Black Friday circular and, not surprisingly, bundles are the major theme here. Some of the better deals include a .99 cent price tag for Rock Band Track Pack Vol. 2 (after purchase of Rock Band game or bundle over $50), Madden PSP Entertainment Pack or Ratchet and Clank Pack for $200, several Xbox 360 bundles (Arcade, Pro and Elite), the World of Warcraft Battle Chest for $20 and a host of discounts on games. <![CDATA[GameStop Says They Have Enough Wii Consoles to Last Through Black Friday]]> Things may be looking up for consumers eager to get their hands on the elusive Wii console this holiday. Speaking with a GameStop exec, Game|Life learned that the company believes they have enough consoles to last all stores up to the first week of December. There have also been sightings on Amazon and various big box stores—which could mean that Nintendo has finally got control of their production problems. Even if this is true, I wouldn't push my luck and wait too long to pick one up. [Game|Life]

<![CDATA[Dealzmodo: Xbox Live Vision Bundle At $49]]> Best Buy and Gamestop are discounting the remainder of their stock of Xbox Live Vision Bundles to $49 in order to clear them out for the new Chatpad Live Bundle that's coming soon. If you still don't have a camera for Xbox Live, this is a fantastic deal to get that, 12 months of Xbox Live, two XBLA games and 200 Microsoft points. Amazon used to have this bundle for about $55-$59ish, this es muy bueno. You'll need to roll down to your local BB or Gamestop to get in on the deal, so take a shower and put on some pants. <![CDATA[Pokemon DS Lite Hits US, Only Slightly Embarrassing to Own]]> The limited-edition Pokemon DS Lite was actually released in Japan back in 2006, but is just now showing up in a Gamestop ad in the US. The flashy, surprisingly mature paintjob features Dialga and Palkia, the two Pokemon—Pokemons? Pokemen?—from the Diamond and Pearl covers. It looks to come with a nice bundle, including carrying case, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DVD "special," a poster of Grovyle and a Pokemon t-shirt. I prefer the even artier Honeybee DS Lite, but if you're dying for some Poke-branding this side of the Pacific, you could do worse than pick this up for the standard $130. [GoNintendo]

<![CDATA[GameStop Squashes Its Bad Zune Habit]]> It was always strange seeing a video game retailer peddling MP3 players, but nevertheless GameStop has ceased selling Microsoft Zune portable media players. The breakup puts a small speedbump in Microsoft's path to wrest marketshare away from Apple's iPod line, and could slow the progress Zune made against Creative earlier this month. While the initial reaction might be doom-and-gloom for the Zune, the level-headed amongst us will remember that GameStop sells video games, not music players, and big box chains like Target, Best Buy and Wal-Mart will continue to stock it. GameStop said it will continue to sell Zunes until stock is dry, so if you're looking for a deal you might want to stop by your local store. [The Street via Kotaku]

<![CDATA[Wii Wheel Gets $14.99 Price Tag; Your Friends Aren't Worth it]]> Looks like the fellows at Gamestop let the pricing for Nintendo's Wii Wheel slip, and $14.99 is the price you'll be paying for each friend you have over on Mario Kart Wii day, (April 27th.) The game will retail at $49.99, which includes one Wii Wheel to boot, but for multiplayer mayhem, you're going to have to fork out that little bit more. Friends suck...not in a good way. <![CDATA[GameStop Signals the Death of the 80GB PS3]]> Rumors about the impending doom of the 80GB PS3 have been going on for a while now, and it appears that Gamestop will not be recieving any more 80GB shipments from here on out. This news comes only weeks after rumors that Best Buy will also be dumping the higher-end model. The bottom line: if you want a PS3 with backward compatibility, you had better get one while you still can. [Kotaku]

<![CDATA[Unconfirmed: Xbox 360 Core Discontinued at GameStop]]> Kotaku reports that they've gotten tips from their GameStop employee readers that an email got sent out telling store managers to take down any signs relating to the Xbox 360 Core version (that's the gimped, hard-drive-less model). There haven't been any reports yet of the same thing going on in other retailers, but unless this is a GameStop-only thing, it seems like the Core is going to be discontinued this holiday season in favor of either only the Premium and the Elite, or a new Core-like bundle we've yet to see. <![CDATA[GameStop Makes a Grab at the Halo 3 Money Train With Limited Edition Accessories]]> Because bleeding Halo fanatics out of $130 for the Halo 3 Legendary Edition really only scratches the surface of their (parents') bank accounts, GameStop is stepping up to collect the remaining lunch money with a line of "limited edition" Halo 3 gear that drops Sept. 4: a pair of Spartan and Covenant 360 controllers and a wireless headset with a "uniquely Halo look."

On the cool side, the controller artwork was created by Todd McFarlane, and they each come with Halo figure from McFarlane Toys. The headset, however, is just an uglified version of the standard Microsoft one, with a Halo 3 logo slapped on it.

For $60 a pop, the controllers aren't a horrible value proposition, but to pay that much for a baby-shit-colored headset should test the devotion of even the hardiest fanboy.

<![CDATA[Halo 3 Zune Up For Pre-Order, Released June 15]]> Fans of the special edition Halo 3 Zune can head over to EBGames or Gamestop (they're the same thing) and pre-order one for the release on June 15.

If pre-ordering this is anything like pre-ordering anything else at EB, you'll hand them five bucks and they'll try and get you to pre-order the Halo 3 Zune Strategy Guide as well.

<![CDATA[Trade Your Old Xbox for a 360 Elite]]> Looking for a cheap way to get your hands on a new Xbox 360 Elite system? The guys at Gamestop are giving out some pretty good discounts if you're willing to part with your old Xbox (and I don't see why you wouldn't).

They'll give you $50 for an old-school Xbox, $200 for a Core Xbox (sans hard drive), and $250 for a Premium Xbox (with hard drive). Not a bad deal at all.

UPDATE: We spoke too soon. Turns out that if you eBay your used Xbox 360 you might fetch a few extra bucks. GameStop has the better deal on the other systems, but you can sell your Premium 360 for $300-$400 on eBay (if you throw in some games). It's not as easy as bringing it to the store, but you'll get an extra Benjamin for going the extra mile.

<![CDATA[Retailers Wish is Granted, PSP Priced Dropped to $169]]> Remember a couple weeks ago when retailers were calling for a price drop on the PSP? Their wish was granted today when Gamestop/EB Games dropped the price of the core system to $169.

Was the retailer demands the only reason for the price drop? Perhaps, but there have been a lot of PSP2 speculation lately. If you don't have a PSP, now may be the time to jump, especially with this system getting down to a more reasonable range, the possibilities with the device as a media player and especially because of some good game titles like Puzzle Quest, Ratchet & Clank and, of course, Lumines.

<![CDATA[Rumor Smashed: Sony Did Not Raise PS3 Prices]]> goog.jpgBest Buy and Future Shop may have jacked up the price of a PS3 on our northern neighbors from C$659.99 to C$699.99, but it wasn't an ill-advised cash grab on Sony's part. An SCEC representative confirmed that Sony didn't nudge the price skywards; individual retailers made the choice to do so. I never thought I'd tell someone to buy anything at GameStop—who's maintaining the MSRP—but the PS3 makes us all do strange things.

<![CDATA[PS3 Grey Market Watch: Fraudulent PS3 Theft]]> holdup2.jpgSome teenaged GameStop employees decided it would be a great idea to report on the day before launch that the four PS3 consoles were stolen from them at gunpoint.

Police say they discovered that the "robbery report was bogus", and that there may have been more people involved. The four PS3s still haven't been recovered, but you can bet these two kids are busy stashing the consoles where the cops can't find them. That, and hoping they don't have to go to PMITA prison.

<![CDATA[Retail Jerkwatch: Console Edition]]> Apparently incredibly sexy tipster Elizabeth's Wii-difficulty at Best Buy aren't unique, nor are they limited to Best Buy. The combination of Black Friday and two massive console launches have brought out the worst behavior in some retail employees, and here are a few.

Our first story takes place in a Best Buy in Toronto, Canada. Reader Charles writes:

...Due to the fact that I used to be employed by Future Shop (a Best Buy owned corporation) during the summer, I knew for a fact that it is not possible to reserve one; I thought I'd ask anyway.

Then someone gets ballsy.

I approached an employee standing near the front of the store and I asked if the store was allowing for reservations for the Wii. He leaned in a little closer to me (which I found to be more than a bit awkward) and whispered, "I can reserve one for you...for a price". I was quite surprised at his response, and even though I had no intention of paying him any extra money, I asked him how much he was charging. He replied, "How much are you willing to pay? Don't lowball 'cause I have other offers." I told him to forget it and walked away.

The dickery doesn't stop there. Reader Kristopher adds to the insanity:

I went to my family's house in Palm Desert, CA, for Thanksgiving and found the local Gamestop to check out for Black Friday. I went there at around 2PM when things settled down just to actually test out a Wii. There wasn't many people in there by that time; probably around four people all in line. I patiently waited so others wouldn't think I was cutting in line to buy something. I politely asked the employee if I could use a controller for the Wii demo station, in which I was responded by an abrupt, "NO." I then paused and asked if there was a reason why not, in which I was stopped mid-sentence by another abrupt, "NO!," and this time the exclamation point is critical because I was literally yelled at in-store. Since I'm a sales manager at my current job I understand Black Friday could have been a stressful day for them, so I proceeded to tell him calmly that, "It may have been a stressful day, but any manager will teach you that in customer service, people don't liked to be yelled at in the store and most managers would fire you for something like that." He then looked straight at me and then the next person in line and said, "Next." I was pretty frustrated at that point, so I asked him to see a manager, in which he told me he was the manager and said, "Please get out of the store."

Well, I obviously left at that point to avoid any more confrontation. I definitely think my Gamestop experience was pretty ruthless.
