the buying process hurts like hell; the first couple of weeks are spent in constant irritation; while it looked good in the store, once you get it it's not what you really had in mind; and six months later you really regret getting it.
I'm told that the sluggishness of the Hero is down to SDHC caching - if you use a faster card than the bundled one it fixes itself right up. On a device that should be free on contract the £25 outlay for an 8GB C4 card isn't exactly onerous.
@Sockatume: That's the case when running Hero roms on the G1, where the small RAM is supplemented with Dalvik caches and swap on SD. AFAIK the Hero has enough memory to not require the SD.
Let's just call it: "free" touch handsets are the final step in Android becoming the de-facto mobile phone standard OS.
In fact, it's not even speculation at this point, it's near certainty. HTC's committed 50% of their models next year to Android, Motorola has their entire lineup headed to Android.
I'd guess this won't affect Palm and Cupertino all that much, but it sure as hell puts Nokia into a death spiral.
And of course, we should all be thanking Windows Mobile, for creating this vacuum, by floundering so spectacularly for so long.
Kind of off topic, but I don't understand countries who don't change their currency magnitudes to go along with inflation if to buy something like a phone you need six million of your currency. I guess it's easier said than done but just remove a couple of zeroes from all things being sold. A loaf of bread is no longer 1000 dongs but now costs 1 dong for instance.
@Purple Monkey Dishwasher: because countries like that have inflation and deflation occur much more frequently and severly. it would be a roller coaster.
@Purple Monkey Dishwasher: Adjusting a currency's scale would be very difficult administratively. Every single record for individual taxes, companies and government expenditures will have to be revised or amended to reflect whether it is from before or after the change. The government would also have to recirculate its entire currency, which might take a long time - I have money from the 1980s.
i used to hate having to use wide ruled paper in the early years of school. what the heck was the point of that? if you're a teacher and you have an answer -- please share it.

I think once the official update hits it would be only fair for you to re-review it.
