The Biggest Game Publisher Threatens to Ditch PS3/PSP |

Only Sony can fix this by getting a bigger installed user base, and that will only happen when the PS3 price drops.

You are what is wrong with news media. How in the hell does consideration of support for the PS3 and PSP give you the sense to say they are "threatening" to leave?
A threat would have been something like "If Sony doesn't release a new SDK, then we're out!" However, the CEO of Activision is saying "Supporting the PS3 and PSP just may not be viable."
You are a prime example of how the news media just fucks things up by taking normal news and making it some intensely important and violent bit of news.
After Hideo Kojima makes his next Metal Gear Solid game and says he's probably done with MGS, how about you write an article stating "Hideo Kojima threatens to leave Kojima Productions if another Metal Gear Solid game is ever made."
If it weren't for your douchebaggery, people wouldn't get so crazy when they watch/read the news. How about you do your god damned job and provide us with factual or speculative news, because this is neither; it is flat out misinformation.

No competition = MS Windows...

Just because Madden is the only football game out there doesn't mean its more expensive for it. Its the same price as all games, and EA holds a monopoly on the franchise.
Now hardware is a different story. There is the potential, but considering Nintendo isn't going anywhere, Microsoft will always have competition. Hell, they are undercutting the Wii by 50 bucks with the Arcade. Nintendo is Microsoft's new competition.

MS: So, we want $2 per game you sell, instead of $1.
EA: That's ridiculous! Fuck you!
MS: Fine - go make games for our non-existent competitor. We can survive for some time on Windows. You will just die.
EA: Shit.
It won't be as dramatic as that, as MS will get sued for antitrust violations. However, if they really succeed in cornering the market, it's realistic to believe that they will appropriate some profit from their new found bargaining power.

1. PS3 didn't sell well at any point in time. Maybe a little high mark when it was first released, but the limited game catalog and high price has kept its sales low and not, contrary to your statements, "the world" being "broke right now". I'm not broke, I own PS2, 360 and Wii and have little to no interest in PS3 because it's simply too expensive and the couple of slightly appealing exclusive titles just don't do it for me.
2. The previous point of dying out still stands -- If something dies before the future, it doesn't matter how well equipped it is (was).
3. Your "future-ready" ready statement has still not been quantified. The PS3 hardware does not have a significant advantage and as Wii has illustrated, hardware advantages don't really matter to the consumer-base that actually matters.
Hardcore gamers, who actually nerd-out over system specs, are not a large enough demo to actually push something in one direction or another.
The two things that matter ,to vast majority of consumers, catalog and affordability. And with that, PS3 loses handedly.
Also, the PS3 is ugly as sin.
