This is what happens when a single company has complete control over an industry, in this case the design industry. Unfortunately, too many designers don't have enough sense to put up a fight and rush out to get the latest version of everything. Ensuring we keep getting screwed by the likes of Adobe.

What bullshit. As a designer that works in a boutique this is outrageous. We don't have a spare nearly ten grand to upgrade. Hell, we're still running CS1 and Tiger on an old G4 as an intern computer.

Thanks for nothing, Adobe. Couldn't spend 5 minutes to even test the damned programs? C'mon.

Excellent. I just got CS4 last week and I'm installing it as soon as I've got SL installed :)

But it's seriously weak that they're not even gonna try to test it. Most people payed a boatload of money for their software. The least you could do is give it a try...

Well, this just goes to show, I'm a PC, and I love it.

But seriously, Apple has done this several times in the past. Adobe has always been non-committal with their support for OS X other than the release version. Might have something to do with Steve Job's amazing love for Flash on the iPhone and Apple's desire to never share with Adobe.

I place this blame squarely on Apple. Why can't they provide backwards compatibility. When Microsoft released Vista, and nobody's older printers worked, did anybody blame HP, Lexmark, or others? Of course not, they blamed Microsoft.

BUT since it is Apple we are talking about, it has to be Adobe's fault they didn't make their two year old app compatible with Snow Leopard. Grow up people and move to a PC.

@BigKenW: CS2 stopped working properly on Vista. Should we blame Microsoft?

I've been using Photoshop CS3 on the Snow Leopard beta and it seems to work fine. Maybe a tiny bit glitchy at times, but not unusable.

Although– they should support it (or lower the price for CS4).

Photoshop should be like $99 now, they sure would sell a lot more legal copies at that price. I know I wouldn't hesitate to upgrade if it were that price.

No adobe, Fuck you. I just bought CS3.3 a year ago and I'm not upgrading to CS4 just because you're too lazy to support software that isn't even that old. CS4 isn't enough of a jump to justify buying to replace CS3, even at my education pricing.

Besides we all know that CS5 is like a year and a half away. Besides we all know that if CS3 doesn't work in Snow Leopard, then Apple is going to breath down Adobe's neck since it would really hurt their platform.

@ddhboy: I stole CS3 Master Suite from my school, and I'm pissed. I didn't even pay for my copy and I want my money back. Well, if you count tuition as paying...

@ddhboy: Completely agree, I also just bought CS3 last year.

@imTheKing: I understand CS4 is impressive, but will the upgrade make me a better designer? Will it enhance my drawing and composition and style and aesthetics? I will think of it, it's just the implied threat that there's no guarantee CS3 will work well with Snow Leopard that deeply annoys.

cs4 is the kind of edition that comes out once you've run out of new great things to add. I have CS2, and works fine for me. CS3, good too, from what I've heard. So if you can't improve it, you do dumb things for the sake of newness and marketing to make more money!

@qrius: i agree, though the only reason im using cs4 is because of the integration of the adjustment layers options into the workspace tabs.

on my desktop this is a pointless update. but on my tablet pc with its 1280 screen, keeping all the adjustment popups nicely tucked away is a great feature

I've been using CS4 for a couple of weeks and am similarly impressed. I also use Premiere CS4 and although it has some minor problems, it is quite awesome, too.

And can Premiere finally handle AVCHD files and output to Blu-Ray?

PS doesn't respect a lot of Mac things because Adobe and Apple have been spatting for years. I still remember when Adobe dragged its heels for 9 months in developing the OSX version of the suite.

My gf at the time was aggravated because her company wouldn't upgrade (which was needed) until Adobe shipped OSX compatible versions of PS and Illustrator.
