Very very cool idea, now we're talking......I'm tempted to buy this product. I really haven't given the kindle/nook a second thought.

They just need to work out where we can buy books from. How come Wally World hasnt come out with downloadable e-books??

I'd prefer not to shop at wally world but wtf else is going to do it?? Seriously a no brainer here people.. #alexreader

I think this feature creep of the ebook reader is appealing on some level, but ultimately pointless. There's too much crossover with smartphones and PMPs. ebook readers should focus on being good ebook readers, not trying to play music and video and widgets and whatnot. #alexreader

@weatherman: In essence, I must agree. I simply use my smartphone to read all the books I want and with the TP2's larger screen it is even better than my previous ebook reader. #alexreader

@weatherman: Totally. This form factor should offer much more functionality than just a book reader / MP3 player. Devices like the Archos PC Tablet running Windows 7, or an Apple Tablet should squash this market except for the PC phobic users that are heavy book readers. #alexreader

@brianmi40: I concur. I like what the Nook was trying to do, but I think it failed with no web browser. I want to be able to switch from an ebook, to a website, to an RSS feed, and maybe listen to an MP3, but I dont want a whole netbook/laptop. Im interested in that Archos tablet, or the Creative tablet to see what they bring to the table.

@weatherman: I think there is some merit in a simple MP3 player, but nothing more.

Load your ebook reader with some classical music, add headphones, read away! #alexreader

@josh.morgart: I think we'll get there in the not too distant future. I don't think we're too far off of having a lightweight tablet that's good for reading as well as all sorts of other stuff. There are just a couple tech hurdles (screen readability, power consumption) that quite a few companies are working on. Some have pretty compelling solutions.

Yeah, our dear friends at that other blog smelled this one coming when Alex first dropped. Its announcement was flung together, perhaps not unlike its current patent applications, to beat the Nook's reveal. [www.engadget.com] #nookvsalex
