That's the problem with this country. We are so divided that we can't even accept someone's political perspective and we become 2 year olds and cry an say, "I don't love you anymore, I'm leaving and never want to see you again". Mature? Hardly.
Personally, I'll have a cup of tea with an Obama supporter as much as a McCain supporter, I'll read a blog (a good one at that (GIZ)) even if they lean towards one side I'm not.
At the end of the day, we are all Americans (except ya Canucks, who talk shit, but I wouldn't be caught dead on your pond). Let's stick together (no association with Tmobile whatsoever, so no beef please)
There, the GOP now supports technology. Every issue can be solved the Republican way: a mindless, brainless, thoughtless chant that ignores the issues and gives people that can't make informed decisions something to say while the other side is doing all the work.
I heard Obama snorts crack, and eats babies. I also heard that McCain sold his soul to Satan and is required to sacrifice puppies on the first Tuesday of every month, and that's how he's been able to live for so long... if you call what he does living... So I can't see myself voting for either of them.
@johnnyabnormal: That link doesn't make it a straw? Obama saying its out of context? It would be out of context possibly if all we had is one sentence. We have the whole f'ing interview.
Dude, I'm sorry you pledged loyalty to this guy, and now your stuck between a rock and a hard place.
@Bladefist: Did you read the link? Palin is saying there is some sort of cover-up + they lift his words out of context. That is a fact. I'm not "stuck" for pointing that out at all. Btw, I HAD to share this with you:
Alright, alright so Obama can email and surf the web. But can he use the computer inside a fighter jet to land a plane? Hmmm. I think McCain can beat Obama when it comes to technology. I'm sure a lot of people here could not land a jet much less use the computer components inside it.
@aceofcakes: "Obama can email and surf the web. But can he use the computer inside a fighter jet to land a plane?"
That might not be a good place to go if you're trying to make comparisons:
McCain III lost jet number one in 1958 when he plunged into Corpus Christi Bay while practicing landings. He was knocked unconscious by the impact coming to as the plane settled to the bottom.
McCain's second crash occurred while he was deployed in the Mediterranean. "Flying too low over the Iberian Peninsula," Timberg wrote, "he took out some power lines [reminiscent of the 1998 incident in which a Marine Corps jet sliced through the cables of a gondola at an Italian ski resort, killing 20] which led to a spate of newspaper stories in which he was predictably identified as the son of an admiral."
McCain's third crash three occurred when he was returning from flying a Navy trainer solo to Philadelphia for an Army-Navy football game.
Timberg reported that McCain radioed, "I've got a flameout" and went through standard relight procedures three times before ejecting at one thousand feet. McCain landed on a deserted beach moments before the plane slammed into a clump of trees.
McCain's fourth aircraft loss occurred July 29, 1967, soon after he was assigned to the USS Forrestal as an A-4 Skyhawk pilot. While seated in the cockpit of his aircraft waiting his turn for takeoff, an accidently fired rocket slammed into McCain's plane. He escaped from the burning aircraft, but the explosions that followed killed 134 sailors, destroyed at least 20 aircraft, and threatened to sink the ship.
McCain's fifth loss happened during his 23rd mission over North Vietnam on Oct. 26, 1967, when McCain's A-4 Skyhawk was shot down by a surface-to-air missile. McCain ejected from the plane breaking both arms and a leg in the process and subsequently parachuted into Truc Bach Lake near Hanoi.
As a manager in a major electronics retail store I live and breathe gadgets. It's why I do what I do. Regardless of if you agree with Matt's point of view, and please recognize it as a point of view, it has absolutely no place on a tech blog. I have been an avid Giz reader for a while now and it is set as one of my home tabs so I read every single update every day. I'm changing that tab to Woot finally as posts like this have been keeping me from visiting as much. Engadget is a much better run blog anyway. I will be recommending the same to all my co-workers and customers. Pull your head out of your ass Giz, biased editors like Matt are going to cost you your core readership. You may be surprised to know who I am voting for after reading the tone of my comment. There is no place for (this much) bias on a simple tech blog. This is my last visit, goodbye Gizmodo...
@LeslieZinkbot: If you want a constant stream of crap to buy, this has always been the wrong place to do it. Everything done here has context and I think this post was done with not only the insignificance of this post in mind, but the significance of bigger issues.
If you can't wrap your mind around that, I very much wish you good luck at the trade publications.
@LeslieZinkbot: Why would a point of view have no place in a tech blog? I read product reviews here all the time and that's exactly what they are, from the vewpoint of the reviewer. I don't agree with or have an interest in every single post placed here but it doesn't stop me from reading them.
Expand your mind. Check out things once in a while that are not necessarily in your fields of interest and be willing to hear a point of view contrary to your own. Who knows, you may even find new interests or at the very least be pleasantly surprised by someone else's insight.
And if not well good luck and hopefully your employer fares better than Circuit City in the coming new year...
In allowing itself to be bent to the will of those who want a theocracy run by Christian oil magnates, the GOP has taken positions that have decreased funding across the board for science and engineering.
Opposing stem cell research has sent money and minds overseas. Opposing funding for alternative fuel research wwhile subsidizing oil has put us in the crosshairs of terrorists and crippled entire industries while propping up those that don't need it. It has also done more to hurt the auto industry than help it -- the industry's own reluctance to change was shortsighted and we see how fast they're struggling to change now. Suggesting that creationism deserves equal time or that evolution shouldn't be taught at all shows a disresepct for science in general, which has been borne out in the dwindling funding for all areas of science in the USA. Even research into beneficial drugs and medical procedures has been diminished.
Supporting science and education is to invest in the economy. Even in the short term, the fields suffering could have supplied unskilled jobs in manufacturing and jobs in surrounding communities in retail and food services, etc. who support these businesses.
Nothing ever posted or commented on at Gizmodo has swayed my vote in any way. No one knows who I am voting for, and I prefer to keep it that way. Vote your heart and your head and let no one stop you from your right and responsibility of voting.
Whoever wins tomorrow, God help them, they are getting a mess and they will need heavens help to fix it.
Typical Giz... "We're not a political blog" yet you have clearly worn your bias on your sleeze since before the primaries...
I used to like Giz because they were quicker at kicking out stories than Engadget. It's lately become obvious to me that the only reason is because you put out stupid articles like this one at about a 3 to 1 speed over Engadget. They have some integrity apparently. I'll be reading Engadget solely from now on.
the prices of those gadgets will go up when obama is in office...does anyone really think that corporations and retailers will take a 3% increase in taxes without passing on the cost to consumers? HAH
