@junglemindstate: Poor Pre. Seemed like the little guy that could and now it just seems like a flash in the pan. Palm face-palm enters the lexicon of the English language. #apple
@cardboredbox: Ahh, watch, that's ban bait. Not that funny and it mentioned Crysis. Pray for forgiveness, for you have angered the Giz gods with your blasphemy. #apple
can anyone vouch for how well the iphone alarm apps work? i have nightstand but have been scared to use it as my primary alarm. although while i write this i realized that i could set the built in iphone alarm as a failsafe. #iphonealarm#theweekiniphoneapps
@AlexSea: the iPhone is a great failsafe, especially after you've offended the wake up guy and kramer has blown out all the fuses warming up his 50,000 btu hottub.
@AlexSea: The downside to the iPhone alarm is that it is ringer-volume dependent. The vibrate switch does not affect it, however, if you tend to keep your volume low otherwise it can ruin the alarm.
Re: Proactive Sleep // "bon-a-fide sleep researcher" -- John Herrman, stop making shit up.
P.S. Don't waste your money on that app. It will do very little in terms of "sleep coaching" or retraining your circadian rhythm, which, is far more important in terms of sleeping in peace.
I hope they finally get this right. Seems like THIS could actually be the "solution to a flawed App Store" if they do it properly. They've had iTunes rentals for a while now, and whatever it is that makes movie files 'temporary' has long since needed implementation on the App Store.
Let me download your app (full featured) for free. Make 75+% of the functionality expire after a week or two; to give me time to try it out. If I like your app after getting a chance to actually use it (instead of some lame crippled free version) I'll gladly buy it. #app
I can see how this is going to play out. It's kind of like going in for a "massage" and being asked to pay for another hour at exactly the wrong moment... or, at least, that's what OMG Ponies says those places are like. #app
@CurtisLolzord: Crap... Palm better find some better organizing techniques for the App Catalog, as well as customizing the Cards. I have, what 4 useful downloaded Apps now!
"cracking iTunes to allow the Pre to sync is extremely easy"
Which of course, no one ever doubted. Palm can't just keep having to re-issue fixes every time Apple decides to update iTunes-it just makes them look amateurish and unprofessional.
It isn't whether they could do it or not, nor how easy it is. The questions are:
a) Should Apple take the stick out of their ass and allow others to sync to iTunes, and stop bitchslapping other companies all the time?
b) Should Palm just get off their ass and release their own media library, and stop following Apple around like a whiny puppy?
@dogcow: There's also option (c). Palm could just pay Apple the licensing fee necessary to allow syncing with iTunes. If Palm really wants Pre users to have access to iTunes, this seems like a less shady way of doing it.
@Mpls_Mikey: Is there a licensing fee? Is Apple even offering that?
I'd be all for paying Apple (as a consumer) to use another device on iTunes. If Apple offered Plugins for other devices in their stores, I'd buy one for each device I owned.
Howabout d) Palm creates a frontend program that grabs songs from playlists and imports them to other devices (ala doubleTwist).
At any rate, a media sync or media library from Palm would get interesting - should Palm make this proprietary for their device only, or open it up to everyone - from their own arguments, the latter would be the way they would choose. So would Palm expend the programming effort for every other company to exploit, the same as they expect from Apple?
@Lizard_King: i dont get why ppl will bend over backwards and give apple money just to use itunes....i mean really....is it THAT good taht youd be willing to pass up other freebies like mediamonkey, songbird, winamp and instead pay money? i personally have used itunes for 5+ years.....i got a pre and got tired of it not syncing so i switched to winamp....works almost identical to itunes.
@cnote1287: It provides more features that I am interested in than other programs. The iTunes store alone requires me to have the software, as well as for my AppleTV uploading needs. Previous to any real networking support, I shopped around and was not impressed, I haven't used anything but iTunes since Yahoo f*cked me out of my unlimited Mediamatch license.
The fact is, iTunes is the default choice. If you want to use something else, great. I do not need my Pre to sync to iTunes, though it was a neat feature when it works (thanks, I'd rather have iTune 9 now). If Palm has a solution, great. If they don't, I won't lose sleep, but won't switch from iTunes at this point.
I'm not sure I'd want a phone with a constant ongoing frenemies relationship with its media software, however easy it is for them to patch things up. I have enough drama in my life just trying to rule the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and make sure that either "Risky Business" or "Top Gun" is never more than 5 away from the top slot in my Netflix cue.

- Code doesn't scroll by on the screen, nor do complex mathematical algorithms float in 3D space alongside CG amoeba.
- A single person could not turn every streetlight in New York green. Or DC for that matter.
- No matter how many hot pockets or Xena tapes you have, you cannot control the flow of information on the internet.
- The only way Matthew Broderick could start WWIII is by attempting a remake of Ferris Bueller's Day Off, still playing Ferris Bueller in high school.
Welcome to real life.
