    I wonder whether they were actually concerned about the laptop concealing a bomb, or if the officer interviewing her was so annoyed by her responses and "smirk" (in the girl’s own words) that the officer literally went ballistic—an abuse of power, to be sure, though somehow more understandable than the official story.

    I had what must have been the first macbook in Israel. I took it over there with a five (5) MB harddrive (10 MB drives were available, but that would have been complete overkill and an embarrassing display of consumption) The drive sounded like it was making loud popcorn when it read and wrote. I was half prepared for them to completely destroy the external drive, and to take the computer itself apart and hand it back to me in pieces, but, nothing happened at all. I specifically remember not being a smartass as I we through customs tho.

    Oh! And one of, if not, the, first walkman in mainland china. I got off the plane with it strapped to my body. A military officer came up to me, told me to stop where I was, and then called a truckfull of soldiers over who surrounded me like in Midnight Express, machineguns, the whole shebang. They instructed me to unfasten it and leave it on the ground and then took me into custody. 4-5 hours later, they did return it to me, completely destroyed, but someone had at least made some kind of effort to reassemble it. I traded the parts for a hat.

    Ha. And they missed her hard drive. Funny, I did more damage to my MacBook with a glass of water than they did with an AK.

    Apple's success is based on product secrecy. Look at all the copycats and flattery. Look at all the people who WANT mac products. Look at the iPhone. iPod. iMac,...iTunes...

    To compare Apple to the 1930-40s secret police that killed innocent people is not right.

    Apple's a company that makes money. Today. You want to work, you sign an NDA, you know that loose lips sink sales.

    Geez Giz, but compare them to Nazis?

    Have you ever dealt with their customer service reps? They are really nice and have actually taken care of Apple customers to satisfaction.

    Really, gestapo? ugh...why not write about something more political, like why don't we have more mass transit, or why Prius drivers brake in the passing lane, ..but Apple as Gestapo? no...

    That's too bad.

    VLC is the only "free" OS X player that gives me 5.1 (suck it, Apple DVD player) - it's essential for my HTPC.

    @B3ND3R: xbmc works really well. It's basically all i need for an htpc setup on my mac mini.
