God hopefully they don't make the GPU worse in the iMac.
I don't give a crap if they add blu-ray players until they add the burners, support for bluray in compressor and dvd studio pro, etc. SERIOUSLY.
Also if they take away firewire I'm driving to cupertino (not that far) and self-immolating in front of the goddamn Apple head quarters....get it? Fire?
@TheCrudMan: I doubt very much that they would take Firewire out of the Mac desktops without an adequate substitute. No doubt they'll keep FW800, which is perfectly fine. I still say they should put an Express slot, or an eSATA port and an SD card reader if not all 3. The damn thing is huge. They can fit.
@dirtydink: HDMI will probably never come to the Mini, especially now with mini displayport out. They're not about to pay a fee for that port when they can just as well use their own, and have you buy whatever cable you need to make it work.
I doubt we'll see blu-ray. Its got to be new processors. Good bye Core 2 Duo and hello Core i7 (or i5). If they don't refresh the processors then Macs will be the only expensive computer with old CPUs come the holidays.
@orangebeef: Core i5 is a nonstarter; Mini and iMac use laptop processors, and i5 is not available as a laptop proc. Hell, the laptop versions of Core i7 just came out.
Hopefully apple will refresh everything with blu-ray. Or add a USB 3.0 to everything, add an extra USB port, and include a external Blu-Ray drive, and the space it frees up put a hard drive there.
You know, if the Mac Mini did not change in specs at all and just got a substantial price drop, I'd probably be just as thrilled as if they'd added the power of Christ to compel me.
Again, unibody? Who cares about unibody on an iMac? I don't need nor do I care to know that it's xx.x% more rigid than its predecessor if it's not going to be lugged around with me all day.
Don't you remember the douchebag at the Watchmen screening who decided to buy an iMac before the movie and then lugged it into the theatre? iMac portability might be a major factor.
@OMG! Ponies!: It doesn't count if the iMac is still packed away in its box. I just wish it was the CRT iMac so he can be punished for his shenanigans.
If anything, I kind of expect to see the MacBook line become the netbook line - i.e. a MacBook without an optical drive and a built-in battery. Then, Apple can say they have a netbook-like computer, sell it around $700-$800, and boast good battery performance.
Please don't put an Atom in the mini, please don't put an Atom in the mini...
...unless you keep the other minis(IMPORTANT), and have a $300 one with an Atom 330 and ION. On second thought don't even call that one a mini, call it a NANO, OK? Oh, and HDMI on all models please WITH AUDIO ON THAT HDMI OR FORGET IT.
@loriensleafs: My guess would be the same people who are already buying Apple TV. Anyone who pays $230 for an Apple TV must not care too much about blu-ray considering you can get a blu-ray player for much less nowadays and can get a blu-ray player with Netfilx downloads for not much more than the Apple TV.
@loriensleafs: As it is the Mac Mini is a far more capable set top box than the ATV, despite not having the proper HDMI and component cables. The difference is price. The Mini costs 2-3 times as much as an ATV.
Weird, yesterday when I wrote my comment to the effect of "nobody will buy a $400 iPod these days", I wrote it based on looking at Google to see how much the 32GB iPod was, and it was already $279 everywhere. I thought that was just the regular price.
Zune HD. That's part of the reason. The Zune HD was so cheap. A 32GB for $290, and then Apple was charging $400 for the 32GB iPod Touch. I was actually looking at the price difference yesterday. :D
Seeing as I haven't slept yet and don't see it happening till around sunrise, I don't think I'll be awake for the live blog. but, I look forward to the flood of Apple posts today.
Though I feel that the likelihood is slim to none, I'll keep my fingers crossed for a 64GB iPod touch. Though the camera would face accusations of being a gimmick (and I'd agree), I admit that I'd certainly use it all the time, since my iPod is practically attached to my hip.
@Cyfer911: I'd actually prefer if the touch had a bit more heft to it, maybe to support a larger battery. As it is, the touch is too thin for me to use without a case, especially since its tapered edges and slippery metal back make it seem like I'm holding a bit soap sliver.
@Hackintosh: I actually skipped out on the first gen touch because it seemed to be sorely lacking compared to the iPhone. The glaring omissions of the design were a huge turnoff, and I was so glad to wait. Despite the niggles I have with my iPod, I could never go back to the older touch.
