Of course the really impressive thing here is the fact that Steve could type, on a typewriter, with almost no mistakes. Typewriters were evil.

I saw what I thought was an Apple I at a garage sale, but I was not sure. The guy wanted $40 for it, he said, "It's an old Apple computer". Later I checked the interwebs, and sure enough, I passed on a $40 Apple I.

As a follow-up to the Giz trip to the Apple Store post this week, I would love to see the owner of this take the motherboard into the Genius Bar to get help hooking it all up. This is pretty outstanding, and never ending kudos to the two Steve's for such a fine starting point to the modern consumer technology extravaganza we live in today.

Hand-routed PCBs are so much prettier than those done with autorouting.

@dingus: You can still make it pretty with autoroute, if you care to. Same goes for custom (analog) layout. Unfortunately, we usually just don't have the time, since the schedule rules all.

Also, imagine how long it'd take to hand route a multi-core chip...wow...

"It went on sale in July 1976 at a price of $666.66… In April 1977 the price was dropped to $475."

Of course, this was way back when people had pride and dignity, and so there was no outcry from early adopters about how they’d been ‘screwed’

@nutbastard: And I do not. I honestly don't know what I'd do with one. I can emulate one rather easily, and while some people collect such things, to me it's just more clutter and junk to set my brain off into very bad places.

I go well out of my way to not keep stuff like this around.

It’s not that I WANT to be known as the dick who sold off the family heirloom, but you can’t have your cake (antique computer) and eat (spend) it too. I don’t care about love my family so fuck ‘em I’ll have to take it in the night talk to them about it first, but I’m pretty sure I can murder convince them.
