    What do you suppose the heating / cooling bill is for a store that is a giant glass cube? Are there tree-huggers out there that boycott Apple products based purely on these temples? Still, it is pretty, in that Apple sort of way, though Steve is going to need to upgrade the street signal and crosswalk sign in front since it brings down the overall high-tech aura of the store. #applestore

    At some point, I'd say that this place is going to be hell during winter to clean the windows.

    But good for apple to have their hall of consumerism and Steve Jobs worshipping up, it's very good looking.

    But I'm pretty sure the price tags inside aren't. #applestore

    @Davi Viana: I dunno, whenever I go into an Apple store, it feels a little like I'm going into Ikea/Express fusion that sells electronics and computers. that's not particularly iconic to me. #applestore

    @Davi Viana: Sorry, I grew up in Southern California. Large glass doors and wooden tables is not unusual there as an aesthetic and never was. The spartan nature of the store is the only thing that ever stood out and even then it was no different than some of the pricier stores in South Coast Plaza that were doing it well before Apple. Apple executes it well, but it is by no means an original or unique design aesthetic. It just reminds me of some of the pretentiousness of the rich people stores I grew up near.

    And, no, I do not say this because I am an Apple hater, I saw it merely from an experiential response to my life experiences. #applestore

    Same design cues you find in any cathedral. A huge space and super high ceilings to emphasize a connection with the heavens, although taken another level with glass ceiling. #applestore

    I wonder how much stuff they actually sell at these locations. I'd imagine most people walk in, look for about 10 minutes, then walk out. Then others might ask a few questions without actually buying.

    Not splitting hairs (like the 16GB vs 32GB iPhone), they only have about 6 products under that roof:
    ipod
    iphone
    imac
    mac mini
    power mac
    mac book

    Since most people walking into the store are tourists having a look around, I can't really see someone making a big purchase, there. Nor would they be tempted to start an iPhone plan, and most likely, they'd already be carrying an ipod they bought at Best Buy. Seems the only people who should be happy about this new store are muggers. #applestore

    @Ninety-9: They sell software and accessories. They also sell warranties and whatnot. I'm assuming a lot of their sales comes from things like that. #applestore

    I really like what their doing with the service areas in new stores. Designating a whole floor, out of view of the rest of the store, is an excellent idea, especially for the genius bar.

    It's been a major flaw in their retail stores design. You have all these amazing computers and gadgets to look at and play with, and then at the back of the store, you have people getting them fixed. Not the vibe I'm sure there going for. #applestore

    There are some buildings (ie hotels, offices) that uses low-e glass windows to reflect uv and solar heat while holding a comfortable temperature inside. #applestore

    @ripfire: That's cheating. It's a great conductor of heat but a poor insulator. You can add material to anything to increase it's reflective properties. Like meth-addict silver aluminum foil.

    If you really want to insulate, but still have a view you trap air between two panes. Then add mylar or whatever they use these days. #applestore
