Don't get me wrong, I love Apple I used iPhone and a Macbook Pro. But this is not really news unless you stay in the area. Every store is almost identical. So, don't hate people for this one. Maybe next time #applestores
Advice to unapproved commenters: comments like "is this news?", "who gives a shit?" and "get a life, apple fanbois" are not going to get you approved. #applestores
Honestly, I'd like to see unapproved commenters not be allowed *period* to comment/audition on posts that verge on 'controversial', for example, anything Apple. #applestores
@soopafly: You can just as easily flip that one around and say that hordes of Apple users come into Windows articles that make unstarred users look bad. It has nothing to do with the OS ecosystem and everything to do with flame wars. Look at any Windows or Apple article and you will see that they are full of trolls and apologists. Getting so worked up about a company on either side is just stupid and deliberately saying that only one side is at fault is even dumber. I tend to side with the people who wonder why this article is news, but I also acknowledge that a majority of Giz readers are vested in the Apple ecosystem, so this may be news to them.
@lostarchitect: lolol thanks for saying this. idk if you saw my post or not but yeah i was telling off an unapproved person before. it doesn't make any sense. if they want to be approved they need to start saying shit like
"apple is awesome but dayum that ilovexspin chick is more awesome" #applestores
@lostarchitect: People called machead(I respect him.Im just making a point) and macpatrik are starred and trolls like S-express MacAttack are still approved here on this blog so I do not have faith in the comments approval system.I know I will never get approved but I will continue to comment here when I feel I have something to share or say which I feel is the whole point of commenting rather than elitist discrimination. #applestores
@Aashish Bhagyanagar: You're approved, you're just not starred. You can't see the unapproved comments, only the editors and starred commenters can. To address your point, the name of the commenter really doesn't matter, it's the content of what they post. #applestores
@lostarchitect: Im posting from a facebook account so I dunno if I am approved or not.
Regarding your point , leaving Kaiser , the other three range from being totally biased to obvious trolls (Please see S-express's comment history and kindly do something if starred commentators have a say in the matter)
P.S I was not directly referring to you in my post nor did I mean to offend you in any way.
@Aashish Bhagyanagar: as far as banning people or whatever, we don't have a say in that. that is strictly up to the editors. We can approve or promote, but not ban/punish. #applestores
@Nathan Obbards: I disagree. Do me a favor and go into a Windows article. Any Windows article. Read the unstarred comments and compare them to Apple the articles. Also the readers if Giz are nearly equally split Mac and Windows as you can see from this article.. on Gizmodo of all places.
@soopafly: When I saw that poll last, Apple was ahead of Windows, so that's why I stated a majority are invested in the Apple ecosystem. That said, an even split between Apple and Windows is not typical of the market.
Speaking of the Windows and Apple articles, it really is pretty damn even on troll and FUD comments; however, it seems like more of the people making those comments in Windows articles are starred. There are people like S-Express, imTheKing, MacAttack, etc. who perpetually make trollish comments in MS articles. You cannot read an article on the Zune HD without someone talking about ''all two owners'', one on Windows without a glut of BSOD comments, and the list goes on with the troll comments. Granted, it is fun to tease Ballmer's fop sweat, but far too often the comments go too far. You may not see the fairly even split because it appears you have a disposition toward one and against the other, but there really are a glut of trolls on both sides. #applestores
@Nick1693: Boylston Street's store is swollen with tourists not buying Apple products. I popped in for a power adapter and had to squeeze between the smelly masses just to find the damn thing. I'll always prefer my La Cantera Store; sure it may be packed around the holidays, but at least I feel welcome and purposed. #applestores
@w1llk: friend, ALL the apple stores in NYC are swollen with people not buying anything. Just try and examine a system you're thinking of purchasing--you're lucky if you don't have to wait 10 minutes for someone writing emails or playing with facebook. it's severely annoying. #applestores
@lostarchitect: Yes, true, but ALL American Apple stores pale in comparison to the smelliest apple store of them all. Regent Street. That. place. is. hell. #applestores
@disinfectant: Oh that's right, I got confused. Anyway, I was in an Apple Store in San Francisco a week ago and wanted to try out a Magic Mouse. Only problem was that every single one of the iMacs that they had was being used by somebody, and most were being used to browse the web or be on Facebook.
Eventually, one of the computers and mice opened up so that I could actually try it out, but while I had to wait, it was annoying. #applestores
@ilovexspin: Going to that grand opening seems pointless. Its just like any other apple store but with more lineups and crowds of giz readers worshiping it. #applestores
About damn time. Every time I bought something at an Apple Store and they whipped out the EasyPay, I always asked when they were gunna make use of the Accessory API and just use iPod Touches. I did NOT, however, foresee the stylus...well, so much for nothing-but-fingers input. Now devs are gunna start making shit that requires one, and the stylus for the iPhone will be like the Nunchuck for the Wii....they shouldn't make you buy it separately, but you know you have to. #ipodtouchpos
@Ginsu: How the hell did you come up with that? Last I checked fingers could easily be substituted for styluses. I don't think I could substitute my fist for a nunchuck, would be interesting though.
Styluses for iWhatevers have been around for ages anyway. It's an optional accessory and doesn't do anything your finger can't do so there's no way the evil devs can force you into buying one.
The reason they're using it here is because it's a hell of a lot easier to write your signature using a facsimile of a pen than your finger. #ipodtouchpos
@tande04: I don't find it the slightest bit interesting. Does anyone really think that signing the "receipt" is more practical using our fingers instead of a stylus? #ipodtouchpos
@Obee Juan: No and thats kind of the point. Your finger doesn't work for the fine things. Signature, drawing (though some people are doing some great things), characters, other fine movements don't work with a finger. You need some kind of stylus.
Its the same thing for a tablet. A lot of the discussion on the tablet has centered around the what the input was going to be. How the keyboard was going to look, etc. I'm saying I find them including a stylus interesting in that regard. The stylus input was often rejected because its a step back but maybe not. #ipodtouchpos
You have to have a stylus for signatures. You have to have a stylus for handwriting input. If you want a tablet the only way you can make it work is with handwriting input, just that simple. #ipodtouchpos
@tande04: or a software keyboard. or maybe even a slideout hardware keyboard? please apple? please? I would get one then.
but then again this whole conversation is about a gadget whose existence itself has been denied again and again
PS the iPod Touch screen in this POS device has not been modified, but the stylus is special in that it conducts your body's static electricity onto the screen #ipodtouchpos
@RT100: I don't need to know "how" it works I understand "how" it works. Thanks though.
If you follow the arguments on the comments you'd see that the whole stylus thing has been largely discounted because apple is moving past that with the capacitive screen. The capacitive screen doesn't work like the resistive screen does with a stylus.
A software keyboard is pointless on a tablet. A hardware keyboard is beyond pointless on a table (get a netbook at that point). #ipodtouchpos
It looks like the window (no pun intended) has run out on Microsoft using this in an ad to counter the Mac ads. Something like, sure Snow Leopard is nice, but if you've ever bought something from the Apple Store, you've used Windows...
