Even if it is slightly different, and even if the developer thought of it on their own, I'd still like to take credit for having inspired ARGH when I wrote "I want to see an augmented reality application based on 'They Live.'" back in July. Now all the developer needs to do is add the option to blow them alien/ghost's heads off - I'd pay $2 for that. #theweekiniphoneapps
There is a great one for android that I just got as part of the Android Developer's Challenge. It was called DroidSpray (can't seem to find it in the normal store). Basically you would have a layer that you would then spray paint on and create pictures on the wall without actually spary painting the wall.
It was community based so you'd get everyone elses too.
Neat stuff but like most of android's ADC community apps there just isn't enough there yet to really get anything out of it. #augmentedrealityiphoneapps
That still doesn't change the fact that apps applied to Apple must first be checked by Apple technicians, upon which the checklist must be signed in triplicate, sent in, sent back, queried, lost, found, subjected to public inquiry, lost again, and finally buried in soft peat for three months and recycled as firelighters.
I like the idea of light based feedback from an automated system. At first I thought DVR meant Digital Video Recorder - which would have made me a less safe driver. When I was first learning to drive, if someone was supervising me I'd stiffen up if I made a mistake, then think about it, getting distracted from driving. On my own, I'd make a mistake once in a while, but learn from it, and keep going competently. #cars
I think the problem with bad drivers is that the majority of them don't think of themselves as bad drivers, or they just "occasionally" do a "few" "risky" decisions/actions while driving.
Plus, having your parents as monitors doesn't work so well because A) they over react to the smallest things because it's been so long since they've been in the passenger seat and aren't sure how to deal/are uncomfortable with this new loss of control AND/OR B) the teenager has already learned how to tune out what their parent(s) are telling them and may have created their own idea of how to drive based on what they've seen on TV and in films
I've dealt with these "bitching Betty" devices in ambulances and fire trucks. What a pain in the butt - they'd sometimes flag you for a "red" if you hit a pothole and if you got three "reds" in a month, you had to go talk to the chief.
Swerve to miss the pothole? Beeeeep! That's a yellow! Break hard to slow down before hitting it? BEEEEEEEEEP! A red!!
@four12: Not to mention if some idiot cuts you off and you have to slam on the brakes, grandma decides to stop for a red light when she's in the intersection, or dipshit in the Accord wearing baggy pants and a sideways baseball hat runs through the red light in front of you. #cars
That's why I have a cheap cel phone and an iPod Touch... the best of both worlds IMO. I can also game my battery to oblivion and still phone someone.
I'm not trying to be smug - I think iPhones are sweet, and would have had one if they were cheaper, but we're seeing more and more privacy violations on top of the other factors now, and other smartphone platforms certainly aren't safe either. I prefer to have a smart gadget and a dumb phone. #storm8
I would rather this guy have my number and call to annoy me than the hoardes of politicos that were calling me hounding me to vote for them prior to Tuesdays election. #storm8
If you want a fantastic photo editor for Android, I suggest PicSay Pro. It's not free (though there is a free trial version), but for the small price it does much, much more. Soft focus, vignetting, many filters, word balloons, image distortion (ie goo, or warping) curved and warpable text, painting, history painting, applying effects via image masking (ie only blur or desaturate masked portions)... plus all of the stuff this Photoshop app does.
I've actually done some pretty nice image edits with it, and it's not huge (only 1.57M) and will save to SD, or export to email, gmail, messaging, or auto set as contact icon, wallpaper or faves icon. Extremely powerful for a phone-based image editor. I bought it after five minutes of playing with the trial version. If you have an Android device and like playing with images, then this is easily a "must have" app, in my opinion. #photoshop
@spline9: I tried this Photoshop app, for nearly 1 meg, it's garbage. It barely does anything, and what it does do, it does sloooooowly. Without history painting it can't do much of anything useful. The free PicSay will do all this does, and more, and with more sharing and export options.
Here's a quick sample of a 1 minute edit with Picsay. It's my cat, taken with the G1, and given a vignetting, and then a blur, history painted to leave the middle more in soft focus, and then slightly sepia-toned. #photoshop

Also, can one of the Gizmodo Powers That Be(tm) remove these spam posts in red from "pengzi1990"? #theweekiniphoneapps

PicSay Pro is awesome. The devs are very supportive and good about keeping it updated, too.
I'll give this Photoshop a whirl, though... #photoshop
