I updated my Verizon Tour. It lists v1.1 as a downgrade and App World disappeared from my Applications list. Now I have no way to purchase and download new applications. Well tested Blackberry and Verizon. Time for your QE staff to consider a new use case.

@DownfieldComa: That's a typo. When I signed up last year it was a 1 time $99 fee. I haven't received any emails reminding me to renew or anything.

After checking out their promo commercial on their YouTube channel

) I see now why it costs $60. They need to cover the costs of hiring the amazingly convincing SUPER HOTT chick who i would so-give-my-number-to-in-the-club, and cost of production work on that commercial that puts anything Billy Mays to shame.

wait, is the upgrade to the full version? or did I miss something?? $60US = €2.55????

@kalenoble: I was confused too, but methinks that the low price is per month, and the $60 is yearly subscription (??). From [www.privusmobile.com] :

Which is even worse than the $3.43 that Tristan Smith came up with. $5/mo = $60 per year tho.

Why not just not answer any (800),(877),(888), or any other strange numbers. Works just as great.

@Mikestan: Unfortunately my bank, dealership and car insurance companies all have 866 or 800 area codes when they call me.. I probably get more illegitimate calls from "regular" area codes, but by "regular" I of course mean Alabama and Kansas.

(Apparently they are very concerned about my car's warranty in Alabama and Kansas).

That is something I've been wondering about recently: Why does my landline display the caller's name, and not my cell? Seems backwards, especially in 2009.

And for those two reasons alone, I do not see myself ever patronizing this service in a monetary way. It would have to be a seriously, deeply special app in order for me to justify the vomit-in-my-own-mouth sensation that is Paypal, as well as a bare-minimum $2.99.

That said, I can't tell if this is more anti-business or anti-consumer. Meh, who am I kidding? It's 99% the latter.

@Gilbert: Maybe it's because I've never had a bad Paypal experience, but I don't see what would be so "vomit-in-the-mouth" about typing in a login and password, and having the money come from my checking account and never having to do anything more than that? Now that I have a Paypal account set up, that's the limit of my involvement. Seems pretty simple and easy to me.

@nachobel: What's wrong with giving a company unfettered access to your bank account and having them make transactions on your behalf only to later be ripped off by the party on the other end of the transaction, at which point you realize you have zero protection from Paypal, you mean? Or were you instead referring to the complete lack of customer service? Perhaps it was the deluge of consumer complaints? Or maybe it was simply that the company does everything it can to prove how anti-consumer it really is?

@Irish_Knight: Before getting this iPhone -- which I waited until 3G and a well-defined app store with useful apps to get -- I was a devout BB user, also possessing several devices. The Storm made me sad, and this early app store foray makes me even sadder.

@closhedbb: It's incredibly difficult the moment you require customer service. They say as such is what defines a company. Paypal is widely considered among the worst companies: too willing to turn the other cheek on the bread and butter that makes it tick. Disgusting, disgusting company.
