My slinky prefers carpeted stairs. That's my double entendre for the day.

The bookshelf staircase looks like it has additional load bearing material just in case one of the steps fail. That's triple duty for you right there.

    I like this title better:

12 staircases that are NOT drunk girl safe.

Could they have made it any uglier? By ugly I mean that it's too utilitarian looking.

Interesting design. It looks like a flying saucer crash landed. I wonder how much power is supplied by solar (as a percentage of total).

@Nick: Given the precipitation problems China has been facing, I bet they wish that joke was a little closer to reality.

Didn't this happen a couple years ago? Yes, checking the arch daily link, this was completed in 2007.

Anyway, I think it's a cool idea but they didn't execute it very well. There doesn't appear to be much intention (although I'm sure there's something there...)

I personally think this cheapens the aesthetic of an otherwise beautiful location.

I'm sure our grandkids will think it's super classy in 70 years.

I get it now. That Palm Island isn't really a palm tree, its a hand; right next to this thing. The new tagline for Dubai is " DUBAI- SUCK ON THIS"

When they are sitting around a design of this structure, do they really not see what we see? I mean from all the architectural drawings I've seen in the past there is always an aerial view.
