These last few months, for the first time since the iPhone was released, customers finally had a choice in who their carrier would be. They'd no longer be shackled by AT&T's sucktastic network! And what did these customers do? Well, it seems like in a lot of cases they, uh, signed on with AT&T.
It's maybe not that big a surprise, given the huge number of iPhones Apple moved this past quarter, but it's still a big number: AT&T activated 5.2 million iPhones this summer. That's nearly 70% of their entire integrated device activations.
Thanks in part to the record 3.2 million iPhones AT&T activated last quarter and continued iPad success, there are now twice as may "integrated devices" on the company's beleaguered 3G network as there were just a year ago.
