Spotted at Tokyo Auto Salon 2009, this mini Lamborghini Murcielago is really a 4x4 ATV. We're guessing that a Lambo might not make for the best off-roading vehicle—there's not much clearance between the tires and the body for proper suspension—but then again, if we were to spend the $20,000 on this ATV, it wouldn't even be leaving my garage (partially because of the price and partially because of how stupid we'd look driving it).

The Lamborghini Murcielago ATV will be available this April. And if that "Sold Out" scrawling is any indication, it will be in high demand. [Carzi via Jalopnik]

<![CDATA[Apple TV 2.3 Update Breaks Boxee, Other Hacks]]> Apple TV updates generally always wipe away all third-party software you may have installed, but usually, most things can just be re-installed. Not so with yesterday's 2.3 version update however, which has closed the door used to install software like Boxee via a USB patchstick. So if you love your Boxee like we do, hold off on installing version 2.3 (and don't forget to turn off auto-update). A thread on Boxee's forums is tracking the issue, where a fix will hopefully be announced. [Boxee]

<![CDATA[Spectacular Video of Jules Verne Apocalyptical Re-Entry]]> Here's the video of the fiery re-entry of the Jules Verne Autonomous Transport Vehicle, the huge European Space Agency spacecraft that carried almost five tonnes of food, air, water and fuel on board the International Space Station. It was taken in high definition from a NASA's DC-8 at 37,000 feet, 90 miles north of the entry path. The debris was scattered through a 157,000-square-mile corridor about 1,250 miles east of New Zealand, where hobbits everywhere thought it was Sauron was coming back to eat them all deep-fried. <![CDATA[First Picture of Jules Verne Spacecraft Re-Entry Destruction]]> This is the first picture of the spectacular re-entry of Jules Verne, the Automated Transport Vehicle that fell from orbit today at 9:31AM Eastern time. Taken from a DC-8, it shows the moment in which it starts to break at 9:43AM, just before falling into the Pacific Ocean. Apparently, the show was amazing because this thing was gigantic. Check its scale compared to the Apollo and a Progress capsule. Update: More pictures coming in now.

Let's hope there are better ones coming.

Jules Verne "carried almost five tonnes of food, breathing air, drinking water and fuel on board." There are two more ATVs in construction right now, and one of them may be in charge of bringing down the International Space Station when it reaches its end of life at the end of the next decade. Watch this space for more pictures and videos coming soon. [ESA and DLR]

<![CDATA[aTV Media Center Hack for Apple TV is Back, Now With GUI Installer and Support For USB Drives]]> After disappearing for a while due to a fair use scuff-up, the aTV software that helps turn the Apple TV into the media center it should have been is now back and freshly updated. Big new features are a GUI installer for loading the hack onto a USB stick, eliminating the messy command line work that used to be required, and support for external USB devices for connecting a bigger hard drive or NAS for more storage, on top of everything else this nifty unofficial upgrade does for your Apple TV.

Mplayer codecs mean you can handle just about every file format you can find (including uncompressed VIDEO_TS rips). Other add-ons include the Sapphire media organizer, a WebKit browser, game emulators, the ability to FTP into your box to avoid iTunes and more, all without blocking any of the out-of-the-box functions. Not bad at all for $60. [aTV via 43 Folders]

<![CDATA[aTV One-Step Apple TV Hack Gizmo Discontinued]]> It was just the other day that we brought you news of the aTV single step Apple TV flash-drive hack, bringing cool functionality to your Apple TV. But now a notice on Apple Core's website says the device has been discontinued (voluntarily, according to the company) over questions about the fair use of some of the software the gizmo uses to work its magic. At least it looks like people who've stumped up cash for one will be getting their money back— the full statement sheds more light on the matter.

—aTV Flash Unavailable Until Further Notice- Thursday 29 May, 2008

Due to questions arising regarding the fair use of a particular file present on the aTV Flash, and conflicting opinions as to whether or not it falls under the fair use category, we have VOLUNTARILY discontinued offering the aTV Flash at this time.

In our interpretation of the fair use doctrine, our software does not cross any lines, but since this is a grey area issue, we have taken a proactive approach and decided to seek clarifcation directly from the rights holder before we offer the product again.

We are working with them to resolve this, and will have updates posted here as they become available.

Current orders have been canceled and refunded.

Sorry for this inconvenience.

Apple Core, LLC

I guess if you're keen to get an aTV, you'll just have to hope that Apple Core work out the problem and get the product back on sale soon. [Maclife]]]>

<![CDATA[Hack Apple TV In One Step With the aTV Flash Drive]]> The idea behind AppleCore LLCs aTV Flash Drive is that users can reflash their Apple TV and add all sorts of cool and useful functionality without having to waste time scrounging around the internet looking for hacks. According to the product website, all you need to do is install the drive and it will do the rest—without voiding your warranty. But what sort of features will it add?

Key Features: - Play most video formats (DivX, Xvid, AVI, WMV, RMVB + more) - Play DVD files WITHOUT converting them - Sync, organize and watch non-iTunes video files - Browse the web with a Safari based web browser - Rent & watch Hi-Def movies from Jaman.com - Stream media from UPnP(v1) media servers - View local weather forecasts - View RSS Feeds - Enable SSH access - All original Apple TV features remain intact - And much, much more...
The drive will run you $59.95, which is a small price to pay in proportion to the enhanced functionality you will receive. This is in addition to the fact that it can save you a ton of time—not to mention one big headache. [AppleCore LLC via Palluxo via Crunchgear]]]>

<![CDATA[Bazooka ATV Mountable Speakers Make Hunters Squeal Like a Pig]]> These 6.5" Bazooka "Outdoor Tubbie" speakers are hilarious on numerous levels. First off, they are designed for hunters—which is why they are camouflaged. The idea is to hook them to your ATV roll bar, which I can only presume is useful for those interested in hunting wild game whilst blaring music.

Uh, I don't know much about hunting, but I do know that thundering out of the brush, guns a' blazin' with dueling banjos blaring from your ATV is unlikely to result in a successful kill. However, if you are interested in picking them up, you can do so starting this March for $449.95. [Product Page via AudioJunkies]

<![CDATA[Earth Electric Utility Vehicle Should Be The New ATV]]>
The Model One ATV is an electric, all terrain vehicle outed as the the world's first "Earth Utility Vehicle." A creation of Barefoot Motors, the Model One has Mythbuster legend Jamie Hyneman as design engineer. Their goal was to create a vehicle designed to work in nature that would be eco-friendly while still providing needed power. This is their first model, with a lithium battery-powered electric motor, is equipped with both high and low gears, all wheel drive, regenerative braking and 1000 lbs of towing capacity. It has all the power of a standard ATV, but with zero emissions. The Model One ATV could be the future of ATVs, and being all electric, it's logical too. [Barefoot Motors]

<![CDATA[Quadski ATV That Turns Into A Jetski]]> You're running from the KGB in an ATV, and all of a sudden you hit Lake Titicaca—what do you do? If you were Bond you'd turn around and shoot them all, but unfortunately your wife forgot to renew your license to kill (blast you woman!). Good thing you have this Gibbs Technology Quadski that turns from an ATV into a Jetski in five seconds flat.

The 140 bph engine lets this thing travel up to 2 hours and get up to 50 mph on land and in the water. Except on water they call it knots. Ah, those silly pirates, always making up strange words.

<![CDATA[Horse Airbags]]> - GizmodoWe suppose this is eminently useful if you often ride the range in pursuit of the wild Jackalope or like to tip your ATV into the ravine of an evening. As we see, this is a wearable airbag that protects the neck, shoulders, front, and ass-bone, which is a medical term for the bone in your ass.

There is a wire that hooks to the animal or vehicle and pulls a key in the vest when you're thrown. The vests are refillable and quite handsome.
