@PaddyDugan: Assuming parents sign the standard paper at the beginning of the year, the teachers do seize electronic devices, among other items considered contraband. You might not like it, but you have to go down to the school to retrieve it. Since many of the devices are acquired without parental knowledge, or parents just can't be bothered, many a classroom/office drawer is stuffed with gadgets.
Hmm, I will have to check out the blackboard app.
I cant test it out now (wifi is slow right now on it). Tomorrow blackboard is down, saturday I will have to try it out.
@KTK1990:
Downloaded it before blackboard went down. On my home wifi network it says im not connected to blackboard. Well that totally stinks if I cant view blackboard on my ipod touch through that app, I have to go through Safari.
Our school blackboard is pretty good, but that app, since it wouldn't even connect gets 1 star.
@Colonel Jack O'Neill: Take it from someone that got burned by one of your recommendations. CHECK WITH YOUR SCHOOL'S POLICY BEFORE RECORDING A CLASS. While some schools don't care, or professors don't care, I taped a review class for a friend who was not there and when the professor found out, she flipped out and had a major malfunction. She basically accused me of helping someone cheat (because my friend had the review recording the next day while the school made their recording available the day after - yes, the school was recording it too) and I had to speak with three different deans about why my recording of the class was a "serious violation of school policy."
My grades were withheld while it was all resolved and in general was a HUGE headache that was totally unnecessary.
To head off the questions: why was I also recording it if the school was going to? Because the school was notorious for botching up recording of review sessions. Out of the 4 review sessions I was promised would be recorded over the tenure of my schooling, only 1 ever was actually recorded and made available.
Why did I agree to record it for my friend if it was against school policy?
a) I didn't know the policy (my bad)
b) other professors have outright encouraged recording before and
c) it was a friend - you look out for each other.
@rclAlaric: PC stands for "personal computer", not "Windows-based personal computer". All Apple desktops and laptops are PCs, but not all PCs are Apples.
@Homerjay WANTS to jailbreak his iphone but is still scared to brick it.: I met Joanna at Surf Camp, and Meg at the Consumerist Panel discussion in NYC a few months back. I'm easy to spot, BTW. I usually stand under the big clock, wearing a red LED nametag. Why red? You wouldn't understand.

Now, a couple things you forgot.
A voice recorder, so this way you can listen to the lecture again, on your own time.
A USB hdd or thumb drive for backup. And a good place to backup your data online.
Again the all important thing, pen/pencil and paper, what you gonna do if your computer dies and you have nothing to write with.

Check your handbook before you record. Seriously.
