    @animeman59: I see. So if they didn't kill anyone, or steal anything, or molest a child, or drive drunk, or jaywalk or kick a dog they deserve a free pass?

    I'm sure all of the Police, Fire & Rescue personnel involved in chasing down a fucking balloon would really appreciate your comment.

    And how long before the next reality show wannabe ups the ante with another stunt like this and someone actually gets hurt?

    This stunt they pulled was unacceptable. The fact that they also encouraged their children to lie in order to continue the farce speaks volumes about how these two assholes should not be parents to begin with.

    Stupid shouldn't be encouraged, or rewarded.

    @PMZanetti: No, their goal was to make themselves 'marketable' for a reality show. Since public opinion of them is not very positive & them being dumped by the production company they were working with I think they failed. #balloonboyhoax

    My spell checker didn't catch any mistakes because I spelled extend correctly. My spell checker has no way of knowing I intended to type the word 'extent' instead of 'extend' and quite frankly if it ever developed the ability to do that I'd pull the plug on this sucker before it became sentient.. #balloonboyhoax

    How the Heenes wasted the hundreds of volunteers' time and emotions was despicable. I've worked on a search and rescue for a lost kid, and I can tell you it is no laughing matter. Luckily we found the kid, but the trauma caused by the whole event, and the sleepless days caused by it were taxing on everyone; and the fact that these people were selfishly willing to do this really pushes me over the edge. What's even worse is that their son will forever be known as "balloon boy" for the rest of his life, and you know his parents forced him into all of this. I have it in my heart to forgive and forget a mistake made by a child, but I cannot and will not do the same for an adult.

    @Rejexted: what's worse, apparently, is how many twitter characters they wasted. There was more twitter chatter about the balloon boy than any other genocide or rigged election of a despot ever, and it was all for the sake of a hoax. A travesty of bits - all that wasted ASCII. And just when I was thinking that I really could believe everything I read on the internet.. :( #balloonboyhoax
