It would have been very helpful in college for the 4' water pipe to have an extra 14" to get to the chamber.

Seems the makers of this product can't even be bothered to tell the difference. Everyone I know that does actual barbecue wouldn't bother with something stupid like this to light coals. Oh, wait, nevermind they use propane since it's easier to get even heating over a longer period of time and use wood chips for flavor.

Real barbecuing/smoking is done over low heat for a long time, being that the heat is so low means precise control of the temp isn't necessary. And I've never seen a person competing in a barbecue contest use gas...
Gas on the other hand is quick, even heat, perfect for grilling.
