It did because some classless little twat at some little Ad agency is thoughtful enough to assume that this is funny. And old people handling a phone... it's funny because Old people are stupid too. Yep, surely some pre-30 year old little yuppy douche is real proud of themselves for this campaign.
What's remarkable is Palm's further development of ads that make you not want to buy their product at all.
I expect the next Palm Pre ad out of, say, Sweden, to feature a hamster with a lit cigarette in its mouth and a Palm Pre duct-taped to its back slowly spinning on a lazy susan for around a minute. "Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima" will be the music.
@dcdttu: Yup, we realize that, however most of the U.S. citizens tend to think of themselves so highly as to consider themselves representing the Americas in general.
@Pope John Peeps II: Very true, actually I think only Canadians and Mexicans actually refer to U.S. citizens as 'Americans'.
Personally, we get insulted when someone calls us that though lmao.
@dcdttu: Well, what are we gonna call folks from the United States, then? Unitedians? Statesmen?
Actually, Statesmen doesn't sound too bad...ugh. I'm sure the founding fathers spent a good deal of time on developing the best system of government they could with what they had.
But you can't neglect branding, guys. Shorten that mess.
hehe, bell is just doing publicly what we all do privately - Make fun of you fat idiots down south. I mean, what other country would elect someone like bush ... TWICE (Well, technically once... but still! that was for a second term).
@Rodime: Yes, yes I see. I have always thought that the laziness, obesity, and inactivity of Americans was directly related to a particular president that we had elected. Well, *they* elected. I was too lazy to get out of bed early enough to go vote for a president that I didn't really know much about because I couldn't be bothered to do my due diligence in researching the candidates.
....I'm sorry, I think I forgot whether I agree with you or think you're crazy....
I worked for a Canadian firm and most of my co-workers were Canadians in the US. The only activity I ever saw them seriously engage in was drinking of the beer and smoking of the cigarettes, and they were VERY serious about both of those activities. And they always let their phone go to voice mail.
We're (Canadians) afraid of our "Nazi Healthcare" system so we need to keep in tip-top shape. Got to keep the bureaucrats from coming to our doors with their scythes.
In Boston on a vacation, I rarely saw fatties, oddly enough. The downtown area is all walk-friendly, which contributes to passive excercise. Same deal over near Harvard. Didn't go to Fenway though ;)
In both Canada and America, it is my belief that the suburbs are what's making ppl fat. When you gotta drive to go to the fastfood/donut store.... :/
@diskdaddy:
You're canadian? A canadian would never call his healthcare a nazi system.
It exceeds American healthcare system by a million to the tenth times.
@Amir Oulad: Tangent, but my healthcare coverage exceeds Canada's by 10 fold. You might mean that everybody is covered in Canada, but it's not great coverage. :/
Btw, diskdaddy, being from Boston, I concur that there are not a lot of obese people about here, but they do exist. :)
Canadians are indeed quite a bit thinner on average, look it up. Or come up over the border and prepare to be shocked by how oversized ppl magically disappeared.
I own a Palm Pre, and in the google maps app, if you turn the phone, the image does not turn with it, like in that commercial. Looks like some Canadian trickery
Nah I don't see it. Especially not the version of the iPhone ad you used.. Epic fail on Giz. You should have showed the one where they do the exact same thing like turn the phone and all that ... like the earlier iphone 2g ads. You lose credibility for the argument using the wrong commercial
