Mag+ Concept From Popular Science Publishers Shows Thinking Outside The (Tablet) Box

The digital magazine battle royale has gone up a notch today, with the publishers of Popular Science magazine creating this beautifully graceful concept. Game on, Wired and Sports Illustrated, game on.

Publisher Bonnier has worked with design agency BERG to come up with the Mag+ tablet, which has the magazine pages run vertically, rather than on the next screen like we've always seen so far. It actually replicates the experience of reading a magazine really well, as pages can be flipped like you would with a normal magazine, and when you encounter an article you'd like to read, you scroll down to view it.

If this is the future for the magazine industry, suddenly I feel a lot more hopeful. [BERG via SlashGear]

LED Wand + RFID Waves = Beautiful

Sometimes it's the unseen that's the most terrifying. In the case of RFID we think there's plenty to dread, but never actually looked at those scary, scary waves. Thankfully someone at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design did.

Jack Schulze and Timo Arnall made this stunning video by using a specially-made LED wand, long-exposure photography, some animation, and a metric ton of patience. I, on the other hand, will be using the next few moments, my eyes, and an ounce or two of amazement to appreciate the supposedly paranoia-inducing beauty of RFID. [PopSci]

Moov Is the LEGO of Kids' Vehicles (Verdict: I Don't Want to Grow Up)

Moov is probably one of the most amazing toys you will see this year: a do-it-yourself 4-in-1 vehicle kit for kids aged between 5 and 12. Now it's a racer, now it's a carver, now it's a tricycle, now it's a scooter. It's like LEGO Technics meet Duplo meet true pneumatic tires, but with giant wood and plastic pieces, easy enough for a kid to build it and big enough to ride it at Warp 7 down the street, as you can see in the demonstration video after the jump.

Made by Dutch company Berg, Moov will be out in June 2008 in Europe, and hopefully in the US before the holiday season. And yes, this is one of those things that doesn't help to improve my Peter Pan complex. Who wants to grow up when kid gadgets are so much better than the adult ones?
