@masonsturtle: plasma as of now, have better picture. lets say you had both tvs side by side, then you had a cnn headline going across the screen on both of them. The plasma one would stay very crisp, the LCD would get blurred. So during a fast action sequence in a movie, the video stays crisp on the plasma but it can get blurry on the LCD. Realisticly, you cant notice it unless you compare it side by side, even then, its not that bad.
@NotSoSiniSter: This is very true. My argument FOR 60hz TVs is that motion blur is a naturally occurring thing. When things start to look too crisp, like a movie like Spider Man for instance, it begins to look fake. It can make even live action begin to look like CGI.
I prefer blurriness and fuzz, because that's what real life looks like. Maybe it's because I have terrible vision and have to wear glasses- but it's all I know!
@Ryan_Long: I thought that way at first, but I made myself enable the 120Hz on my TV for a while. I got used to it, now I like it. When I watch other peoples' TVs, I don't miss it much, but when I watch mind I don't mind the effect and it does make things crisper. At first I thought it was surreal or too crisp / fake looking. My mind started processing it differently over time and now I see it more like I am looking through a window at the scene instead of looking through what a camera recorded.
@Ryan_Long: i'm kind of conflicted when it comes to 60hz and 120hz. for one, i like the fact that it makes the picture look less blurry and sharper, but the demos at best buy just downright disgust me. it looks way too fake. sometimes it doesn't, so i'd have to test the tv first. the thing i like about 60hz TV's is that they're cheaper lol.
@Branhower: Sure, I absolutely agree. Accurate color reproduction is far more important than going beyond 120Hz. There is a slight difference at 240Hz and even smaller diminishing returns the higher you go.
Accurate / true black level is more important too.
I was trying to say that 120Hz over 60Hz is hard to swallow at first because there is a lot of difference and it looks too real, but at least for me I found that I got used to it and rather like it now. I don't dislike TVs that don't have it, but it just a nice thing to have now that I am used to it.
@paulrules: That is the standard refresh rate for plasma nothing special there. The prices are good for LCD, but they are like that because they are 60Hz, 120Hz is now the standard medium to shoot for to getting an LCD. Feel free to enjoy laughing at those getting 240Hz,

@Navin R Johnson: I was aware of the "first" rule, the "crysis" rule, the "blend" rule, the "overlord" rule and the disemvowelment punishment, but I could've sworn there was a no spamming rule somewhere.
Besides, isn't the ban-hammer supposed to swing with impunity at the whim of whomever carries such a weapon?
Not to defend their strategy, but if you are getting the whole thing for 1650 and the tv is actually 1689, then you are still saving a shitton of money (free ps3, game, and movie).
Oh shit, you need an HDMI cable. Tack on 10 bucks.
So wait a second, what's this whole Bing Cashback stuff? If I buy the $1000 bundle for this, PS3, bluray, game, and the 46" V-Series HDTV for $9xx.. and since Bing Cashback says 5-10% cashback for best buy, it means that I can get $45-$90 cash back?
@saif32:
Because the point is to get people to use Bing instead of Google. The point isn't profit, it's marketshare.
It's the same tactic they used on the XBOX. They lost millions on the XBOX, and now they got a ton of marketshare and are making a killing on the XBOX 360.
@Xagest: actually, they lost somewhere around $6-billion USD on the first Xbox and they're almost at that amount for the 360 as well. that of course is talking about just hardware. software they're making a killing.
Free PS3, game and movie with purchase of normal price TV? Now I'm no huge fan of Sony, but even if you find a cheaper 46" inch and buy the extras seperate, it would probably cost about the same. And you would have a Sony vs a Westinghouse.
Then again the only Sony product I bought in years is the reader, and while I like the product the support for it terrible, so my ideal bundle would be a Samsung, Xbox 360, and $150 bluray player.
@thechansen: I don't think HD Guru or Jack Loftus are saying that the deal is bad and that you shouldn't go for it - they are just catching Best Buy in a lie. That's sort of the entire POINT of a free press. I keep seeing comments on this article to the same general point that you are making, that "it's still a good deal, so why complain?" but the fact is that Best Buy is misleading consumers and it's the job of the media (HD Guru, Giz, etc) to point that out and make sure people know.
In my particular case, if I were in the market for an HD TV, I would probably jump at the $1100 savings deal, but I'd be much less interested in the actual deal they quote up there because it's only saving me around $50, which I could surely make up by shopping somewhere other than Best Buy, since they are already higher priced than many other retailers. Since I don't care about owning a PS3, really, the deal quoted in this article doesn't appeal to me.
@Aetius: +1 I'd like to know this too. I also want to know whether stuff ordered in the US and shipped to Canada counts for cashback. Does anyone know?
@iamnotafish: I don't know the answer to your question for sure but I do know the cashback is calculated only based on the price of the product excluding shipping and taxes. For this reason, I'm not sure if they care where you ship it to but then again, international shipping might negate the discount.
Using Bing Cashback, 15% on walmart.com, I just picked up a 120GB slim PS3 with an extra controller, Bluray remote, arkham asylum, infamous and the dark knight movie for $313 bucks plus some tax and free shipping with site to store.
@PurpleMonkeyDishwasher:: Whoa, I had no idea cashback existed! Thanks for posting this. I'm looking to buy my first tower PC soon and this'll come in handy!
@Rejexted: Yeah, it's great. I was skeptical at first because it works only if you go through Bing's website to get to those sites. But once you are on the sites, there's no notification that you got the cashback. Bing says it takes 1-2 days to update your Bing account to reflect your savings so I took a shot and hoped it would work. After a few hours I got an email and the savings did indeed show up in my Bing cashback account. Also, for some reason, if you go to the bing.com/cashback site and look for participating retailers, some of the more reputable stores don't seem to show up (Walmart and Dell for example). But if you type in Dell cashback or walmart cashback in the bing search field, one of the sponsored links will get you there fine. Dell is 20% and walmart just changed from 15 to 20% as well.

There has to be a basis used...the MSRP is the only one that is "standard" across all the stores.
However, who really cares what the "savings" really are? What is important is the price one has to pay.
Why? Unless one is buying to resell at a profit, the "savings" are irrelevant. Buy what you can afford...OK, what you can afford at the best price.
Wait...how do we know if we are getting the "best" price? What do they "normally" sell it at?
Ahh..I guess this is why we are still interns...
