To create an entire community living well past its expiration point was an incredible feat and I think they pulled it off quite nicely. Perhaps they deducted points for the giant mole scenes, though I think those worked well, too.

I agree about WALL-E. Surprisingly good Sci-Fi not even considered. It's really a shame.
Kung Fu Panda was awesome (to me) and Bolt was passable, but neither were what I'd consider award worthy. Both played off of very familiar themes. WALL-E was totally different.

Just make a bleak movie, or a bleakly heartwarming movie, or a heartwarmingly bleak movie, and you'll nominated for sure.

i don't think iron man's effects were very special at all. using CG to animate a solid, unflexible surface is old, old news. animating a soft, human face is technically amazing.

Everybody knows that Best Visual Effects is all about the eye candy, and I think Iron Man fits the bill better.
