Given how many craptacular Tokyoflash watches Gizmodo has posted about without comment, I am surprised this watch gets taken to task. The execution isn't great but the idea is cool. Just search this site for "Kisai Tenmetsu" and try not to throw up a little in your mouth.
The point is that they can find ways to justify prices higher than they could if it was just a TV with a good picture. The prices of TVs are now dropping to the point that they are approaching the cost of the raw materials and manufacturing. This is driving their profit margins down to nil. They are looking for any--empty--excuse they can find to keep that price and profit margin up.
I have 3 monster cables her in my house. Why did I buy them? Well, because they BLINK! They were also on sale at woot!, so how could I go wrong. I mean, they frakkin BLINK!
Folks who would consider this at $179 vs the Kindle or nook are the same kind of folks who would spend $55,000 on a replica Lambo, when they could just as easily spend a few grand more and get the real thing.
The monster in pic #1 is what the floor behind my desk looked like until very recently when I climbed under there to straighten it all out. I marked, disconnected and reconnected everything. When I was done, I had 4 cords left over that went to no where. They were not connected on either end. Everything is working, and I still havent figured out what they were for.

Seriously, I don't use social networking or Twitter and I'm tired of companies wasting time putting this stuff on devices that don't really need it.
