did you guys even look at the site? the battery pack is actually optional. it comes standard with a plug so you can run juice to it from an extension cord.

I think the battery time is the obvious hitch here. They could include a 'remote' battery box that could hang from a lead wire that you mount at a more manageable point on a tree or post closer to the ground. Having the batteries exist inside the birdhouse was a bad idea. This could be a fun thing to mod though so that you can change the batteries to your own liking without having to physically touch the birdhouse.

I'd rather have a small waterproof, wide-angle camera that I can dunk in my coral reef tank and watch my fish and inverts. I've seen some DIY setups but currently, I've not the time to invest in something like this.

@tech-tard: Harbor freight sells a color camera that is weatherproof for about $39. I bet with the right sealing/enclosure, you could make it work. I am picturing one of those dome stands you can get for crafts siliconed to the bottom of the tank, to ensure dryness.

In the 19th century, people had separate buildings with pigeon holes in them. They attracted nesting pigeons, and the owner would tie the babies feet so they couldn't fly away. They'd grow up in the nest, and never leave, so the parents kept feeding them, long after they would have naturally stopped. This created a steady source of poultry that the farmer did not have to tend or feed, just tether, wait, and harvest. In Louisiana the building was known as a pigioniere.
