The only difference I've ever been able to see between a traditional TV and a HDTV is how easy it is to see all the compression artifacts on an HDTV. Usually, the picture looks like it's being shown through a screen door. Other than that, no difference, especially when viewing them from the recommended viewing distance.

I'm convinced that the only reason these sell so well is because they've been pushed so heavily as the "must-have" item. Every week it seems that it's "Now the time!!!" to buy an HDTV, depending on what site/magazine I'm reading.

For me, it's an "Emperor's New Clothes" situation.

Although you're correct in your assumption. I prefer using a personal computer for gaming, as I consider it the superior gaming platform.

I was going to get that, but I couldn't find any stores with the LED DLP set up. They only had the old DLPs...and unless you were directly in front of those old ones, the picture looked like crap, so ended up getting a 46" LCD samsung instead.

For Best Buy at least and some other stores it is similar, one of the best ways to buy a TV tomorrow is to buy it today. A lot of the Black Friday deal TVs are already on the websites with free shipping so you don't even have to worry about waiting in line or getting trampled.

@iwishiwasamime: I'm thinking next tax return season may be my earliest likely upgrade time at this point, throw in another stimulus check and I might be headed to Kuro town! (prob not on the kuro, but I can dream can't I? Realistically tho a Sammy LED LCD in the high 40" to low 50" area is what I am aiming for.)

@bpapa9013: Scratch that on the LED, I didn't realize the new sammy LED powered LCDs became exclusively 9 series TV's... Damn! I thought series 7 and up got LEDs, that sucks...
