I have a feeling that I will hear someone try to use this as an example of why Windows sucks sometime in the future, of course ignoring the part where it had nothing to do with Microsoft or their patches.
Oh, well if you can't spend your time spreading hate on the internet about a technology company for no valid reason then what is there to do?

Screens of death should flash yellow and green, because the Subway commercial told me that the colors green and yellow trigger hunger, and hungry people are too distracted to care. Make it so.
I stared at a small white dot on the Image for a good 2 minutes trying to figure out what it was. Then I found out it was a speck on my monitor ./facepalm
Looks like prevx takes back there statement that the update caused it, I say its a ploy for free marketing...i mean come on before today I've never heard of prevx...have you?
@Nirojan: And yet Gizmodo still continues with the VERY misleading headlines...
From the prevx release linked above
"Having narrowed down a specific trigger for this condition we've done quite a bit of testing and re-testing on the recent Windows patches including KB976098 and KB915597 as referred to in our previous blog. Since more specifically narrowing down the cause we have been able to exonerate these patches from being a contributory factor."
I see what you did there. Pretty witty. My question is, did you actually place the block quote in the black square or did you not? Or, in sticking with the nature of the quote, will you refuse to divulge that secret?
I'm reading this story as I sit waiting for my new 1500 dollar Windows 7 Laptop to arrive. The last thing I want to see today is any color of death screen!
@KLanD: No, actually, when a hardware issue crops up like this, a firmware fix does get released to solve the problem. The RSD issue (random shutdown) was helped by a firmware fix that prevented the cooling system from shorting again. Of the two macbooks I purchased in '05, one was repaired for the problem, and the other was fixed with the firmware update (the firmware was released after I had my other unit repaired).

The MS bashing was good while it lasted though!!
