To prevent any further mac vs pc malarkey in this thread (considering we have no idea WHAT kind of laptop incinerated the poor fellow), here is a reminder of just how much we are all in the same boat on sploding laptops: [blog.wired.com]
@jestermeister: Thank you. Although I was kinda hoping you wouldn't get it and this would turn into a huge flame thread where I categorically denied that powerbooks were macs for like 15 comments. Even though that might get me banned.
@im_here_for_the_food: Though my comment above isn't the epitome of piety, yours is seriously far beyond the bounds of good taste. Also did you spell resource wrong.
And, in case the link does not work, here it is repeated from its January 2008 posting by Giz commenter Frigg--the similarity in name being entirely coincidental:
"Frigg's Law:
Anyone who corrects someone else's grammar on the internet has a greater than 90% chance of 1) being wrong, 2) including grammatical mistakes of their own in the text of the purported correction, or 3) being a dick. The more the grammar-corrector pursues their correction in a thread, the closer that percentage approaches 100%."
@MacAttack7388: Sorry to give you the bad news, but Apple switch to Intel hardware a few years back, so you are using essentially the same hardware now as any other PC. But, maybe the pretty Apple logo will save you.
I think a bit of scepticism's in order, Giz. We've had about three stories about this in the past year, with phones instead of computers and each time they omitted that the victim was hit by a tonne of bricks, or shot, or run over, and that might've contribued to both their injuries and the mysterious phone damage.
"Police said his charred body was found in a sitting posture. "We are yet to ascertain the cause of the blast. The computer was completely damaged and the deceased was charred," a police officer told TOI."
Indeed, we do NOT yet know the whole story, and it was only referred to as a "computer", no mention of it being a laptop.
@bosskev: Well, judging by the extinguisher residue and the burn marks where the battery is, can you honestly say this computer didn't have an "incident"?

wow
So if that happened to someone in the US, how'd you like it if they said "Oh great! 10 more job openings"

* chokes just a wee bit on "following" his first Facebooker *

Grammar fail during spelling Naziism... Tsk, tsk...

Maybe. Legally speaking, this is still contentious. I mean, for all we know, it WAS a Dell and that's why this "illustation" was chosen.
04/06/09
Then ya' might wanna blur out that "illustration's" brand name just a wee bit more. Unless you just happen to like lawsuits.

I mean, a laptop battery having a meltdown is nowhere in the same league of
MUTHAFUCKINSCARY
as a computer which explodes and burns you to death. Subliminally or not, are we now not just a tiny bit more leery of a DELL laptop?
