Actually, this was the final moment. After watching this I looked around my cubical and out the nearby windows, focusing my stair at a parking structure used to temporarily store nearly 3,000 of my co-workers vehicles... and then a gentle feel of my acne free complexion and a glance at my nearly full wallet armed to battle another storm of bills, and the knowledge that I have not been a virgin for as long as most of that crowd has existed... I am finally aware that this is just NOT my crowd.

That is an expression of pure, remorseless, cold-hearted joy.

Under NY Workers' Compensation Law §§ 11 and 29, Gawker Media (your and Blam's employer) is immune from suit unless Blam sustains a "grave injury". So because you only burned Blam's face with a battery acid smoothie, Gawker is immune from suit.
Next time you do something like this, make sure someone loses an eyeball. Or a finger. A whole finger - it can't just be two knuckles. And it can't just be a knuckle from one finger and two knuckles from another. Blam needs to lose a whole finger down to the palm.
Also, making Blam lose a thumb won't do it either. For some reason, the Workers' Compensation Law says that a thumb is not a finger.

The injury schedule doesn't give that much money. Basically, under NY's WC scheme, you can shear the top two knuckles of the fingers of your right hand off in an improperly maintained machine and you can't sue your boss. WC will give you a set amount of money and it's not all that much.
Plus, damages for pain and suffering is where the money is at.
