The interface is going to have 500 pictures of the boxes for "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past", and "27 Dresses" but I won't be able to find "Run Lola Run" anywhere. When I finally end up picking some movie I didn't even really want to see, out of frustration, I am going to wait 10 minutes to finish the transaction. While I am waiting, they are going to put a pop-up on the screen to get me to buy Butterfingers and Popcorn.
@suburbancowboy: When the movie finally finishes downloading, it will actually turn out to be a copy of Munich. You'll immediately call Blockbuster and "return" the movie. You'll even be generous (read: too exasperated to care) and not demand the refund you deserve. Several weeks later, they'll call you about the movie you rented, claiming you never returned it. They will demand you pay a "re-server-ing fee."
Goddammit, I'm so tired of Tivo shoveling this useless crap at us when they can't be bothered to fix bugs like the Clear button intermittently not deleting a show on the info screen. They can't be bothered to add a "Once Every 24 Hours" feature to Season Passes so that the frickin' thing won't record Daily Show six times in a day. But they can throw redundant crap like this at us. Tivo sucks.
@StutiCebriones: Have you tried telling your tivo to only record new epidsodes of the daily show? That way it will only record one episode a day instead of all of them.
@mpotter: i have never been more pissed off than this morning when i realized that Tivo was recording not one, but FOUR john stewarts a day! even though i told it to only record "new".
however, i don't think this is Tivo's fault - it's effing comedy central's fault for not correctly tagging their shows.
Tucker's right, mpotter, although in my case it was recording all six showings of TDS. And yes, it's Comedy Central's fault for not properly tagging every showing of every episode of every show, but a "Once in 24 hours" option for Season Passes would cure it. It's true of most shows broadcast daily, not just TDS and Comedy Central.
@StutiCebriones: That's one of the few shows that's never properly tagged -- I set up a repeated manual recording instead of a season pass. Sure it sucks as a worekaround but it will work, and free up your tivo.
@StutiCebriones: Also, I think a lot of people appreciuate that Tivo adds thsi "useless crap". They're one of the few companies that contiinually adds new functionality to an existign device. And variety of media options is good.
As much as I love my Netflix, I'm beginning to worry that their all-you-can-eat-for-free pricing model is hurting them against the competition. Well, maybe not Blockbuster because those guys are pretty well fucked right now and there is little that they can do about it. But other streaming video sites devices that actually charge a fee may actually be attracting more of the big-name movie companies to put their content on them because the fee structure is just like that of the traditional rental business. Content is what is going to make or break any online streaming service, and right now Netflix is not keeping up with the likes of Vudu, Apple and Amazon, even if they are beating them on service and price.
