    Just saying here..but I got fired from BB back in like 06. I had a 100 fever when I went into work, because they couldn't find anyone to work, and was vomiting every like 15 minutes. At the end of the night when I clocked out because the manager said I could go, he stopped me at the door and was like "What are you doing?", then when I told him leaving because he said I could, I got fired for insubordination.

    Just an idea of how some of the BB management works. #blockbusterstabbing

    @Nowell: If that actually happened as described, you could have filed a wrongful termination suit. It's one thing to fire someone for no reason at all, which is the basis of at-will employment...it's another thing entirely to manufacture a bogus cause for firing someone. Terminating for no reason at all is considered a layoff, making you eligible for unemployment. Termination for cause, like insubordination, disqualifies you for unemployment.

    So unless you're leaving out pertinent details, it sounds like they were planning to get rid of you and wanted to prevent you from filing for unemployment benefits. It's nothing new--I had a friend who experienced something similar. She got sick, was told she could go home, so she did, and they fired her for going home, and she was unable to collect unemployment as a result. I told her to file for wrongful termination, but she's not much of a fighter. #blockbusterstabbing

    @Barion: In hindsight, I probably should have, but I wanted nothing to do with the company after that. Shortly after, I noticed that all the people I worked with who weren't management were working in new places :)

    As a former BB employee I can say if your sick and trying to get off work it is the worst situation, because YOU have to find someone to cover your shift. not the person in charge but YOU the sick one who doesn't feel good and doesn't want to have to deal with that crap. I feel for the guy that had to stab himself to get out of work, I have been there. #blockbusterstabbing

    I don't buy the whole "skater stabbed himself and said the skins did it just to get outta work" thing... Everyone knows the only people that beat down skaters are the olds (doing a grind on their handicapped handrail at the library) and the cops.

    This is why I live in Edgewater. There's always some excitement going around. That Blockbuster really sucks anyway, so in a way I can't blame the guy for not wanting to go to work. Odd, though, that he pinned this on skinheads. Edgewater, for years, was a meeting-place for Denver's latino gangs, as it's across the county line and most businesses wanted the money, as long as there was no trouble. We don't see many skinheads, though. Interesting fact: Edgewater's very first fire truck (which gets rolled out for the "Edgewater Days" community festival) was purchased for the city by the Ladies' Auxiliary of the KKK. No foolin'. This was also back in the 20s, when half the people in Colorado were members. #blockbusterstabbing

    Yeah, Carl - you know how I told you I was downtown with some friends and when we were coming home from the bar, some skinheads attacked us and tried to steal my girlfriend's purse and I got stabbed?

    Well it wasn't true. I wasn't downtown. I didn't go to a bar. I don't have multiple friends. I don't have a girlfriend. There weren't any skinheads.

    I was in the parking lot huffing paint thinner again and this homeless guy showed up and it kinda freaked me out and then I felt stabby so I cut myself.

    That's right, Carl - I'm a cutter. Yeah, I kinda figured you'd fire me. Well, I'll stop by later this week to drop off my polo.

    There's a half of a Subway tuna sub on the table in the back room if you want it. I got it around 5 last night so it should still be good. There's nothing wrong with it. I just felt kinda queasy after spending two hours sniffing markers.

    Also, I was wondering. I passed out around 8 after drinking some rubbign alcohol and I left the caps off of the markers. Do I hafta pay for them?

    Oh yeah - open the window in the backroom. I spilled some paint thinner. #blockbusterstabbing

    The only way to restore his honor from his attempt at restoring his honor is to complete a full Harakiri. Anything less would bring dishonor to his ancestors.

    Alternatively, just rent a good movie or video game from BlockBuster and move on.

    @wolfshades: You know times are tough when a skater stabbed himself to get outta work. Back in the day if I was working at Blockbuster and didn't want to go in I would quit and get a new job tomorrow.

    I guess it's pretty grim being a kid now days with the job market as it is... wait a minute, this guy is 29. Never mind, I think he would be lucky to clean the bathrooms at McDonald's.
