The first thing I thought of when I read "light, rapid buzz" was Awesome, I want one in my penis. Then I realized all my zippers would need to be plastic, and it would hurt quite a bit if I walked too close to something metal. One more dream killed by logic... #bodymods

I think my post got deleted so I'll redo it..

I have these so I will clear some things up:

Credit cards: I tried to ruin a debit card I don't really use (so no loss) but I couldn't.

IT stuff: If anything its HELPFUL. No way could it damage a hard drive, but it's great for picking up a screw in a corner of the case.

MRI: It would rip them the fuck out from across the room. My insurance card has a notation of the magnets on the back just in case.

Airport security: Doesn't even set off the alarms.

Store security: Well, you can tell when they are working or not (buzzzzz if they are, nothing if not). I've found a good portion of them do not work.

Hope that helps anyone interested in getting this done. #bodymods

Hey guys. I've lurked for awhile but this post made me sign up.

I have these magnets implanted so I'll clear some things up:

MRI Machine: They'd rip right the fuck out. My insurance card has the magnets noted on the back.

Security: They do not set off metal detectors. Though you can tell whether the things are on or not. Most are not.

Credit cards: I tried on my debit card that I don't use very often. It's not strong enough to affect it.

    Hard drives: same.

Hope that clears things up for anyone interested in doing it. #bodymods

@Hunter2458: Not really, since there are already more powerful magnets inside your HD. Like the ones I posted picts of before that I am using for a running experiment. What I can't figure out is that since the magnets in a drive are ALWAYS charged, since they aren't electromagnets, how can you sense the drive spinning up? You'd either "know" it was on or not if this could pick up the magnets in the drive motor, but those would be overpowered/masked by the drives larger magnets. #bodymods

@relawson: Is your wedding ring steel or gold, or a grade titanium? Compared to those, this is an ACTUAL magnet, not a piece of metal that may or may not have/store magnetic properties. Just remember the story that happened in NJ where they turned the machine on, and a O2 tank shot into the machine and killed a child. #bodymods

@GitEmSteveDave_IsSlacking: no, its cheap ass white gold :)

i've heard about that tank thing, and have seen pictures of metal tables sticking into the side of the tube because it was too close. but, the fact that my shoes with tons of metal pieces in it were no bother leads me to believe that nothing would happen. #bodymods

@relawson: I think it has a lot to do with the mass of the object, not only if it's magnetic or not. White gold (or yellow for that matter) is not magnetic and the eyelets in your shoes are very small and probably aluminum. #bodymods

@relawson: I'm willing to bet your eyelets were aluminum, as maven2k said, or perhaps brass that was chrome coated.

All I know is this. My neighbor, who owns a crane company, had his welder need an MRI. They would not do the MRI until he had an eye exam to make sure that since he didn't always use a mask, there was no metal that may have arced off and got stuck in his eye. #bodymods

@GitEmSteveDave_IsSlacking: for some reason i can't find a decent magnet around here!!! I have a strong telescoping wand at home in my toolbox, if i havent completely forgotten about this experiment by the time i get home i'll try it :)

someone posted recently that actually has them, though. #bodymods

@relawson: Well, I have been dealing with magnets a lot lately, as they are necessary for the RoofCoffeeCup to work and stay on properly. This cup will stick on my steel toe shoes pretty good, as well. #bodymods

That's pretty awesome, that it actually gives you a sense of something by hijacking an existing sense.

I mean, ok, so maye it kills the skin, but whatever, it just means that it won't hurt if you cut your finger. Sounds win/win to me! #bodymods

I read this before and all I could think of is some of the long term problems and hope that none of them ever need CT, MRIs, or the like. Plus, with inserting it without any kind of sheath, I wonder what the long term effects of the body absorbing the metals might be.

That said, it is pretty cool some of the things they can do with it and as they learn more about it and it becomes safer, I could definitely see it becoming useful in some professions. Think of being an electrician and being able to tell a wire is live before accidentally grabbing it. #bodymods
