In reply to Verizon Broadband Customers Get Free Boingo Wi-Fi
As a FiOS customer, I tried to access it today. And trust me, as good of an idea as it is, it's full of fail.

    WIndows only? FAIL

Software download required to access hotspots? FAIL

    No 64-bit support? FAIL

    No support for Win7? FAIL

No support for mobile devices with Wi-Fi? EPIC FAIL

Come on, Verizon... you could have done better.

@MFfan310: A few points to clarify here.

    Windows Only
Completely false. You don't need any software to connect to their hotspots and even if you wanted to use the optional software they provide, they have a version for Mac OS X.

    Software Download to Access Hotspots
You don't have to download anything to access the hotspots. Boingo has a program that simply makes connecting to the different hotspots easier.

    No Support for Win7
They aren't supporting this yet because IT HASN'T BEEN RELEASED FOR PURCHASE to the general public. I'm sure come October when people can buy Windows 7 they'll support that OS too.

No Support for Mobile Devices with Wi-Fi
Again, you don't need any software to connect, I can access their hotspots fine with my iPhone and I do believe that falls into the mobile device with wi-fi category. Again, if you really want their software that makes connecting easier, they have downloads for multiple mobile OSes.

Not that I love Boingo or anything, I'm just trying to figure out why you posted all of this clearly incorrect information. The only research I needed to do involved visiting a single webpage - http://www.boingo.com/download-boingo.php

    @Daniel Scott Steinberg:

    http://www22.verizon.com/ResidentialHelp/HighSpeed/Networking/SetUp/WiFi/124612.htm

Says it all right here. No Mac support, no mobile device support, requires a software download. Check your facts first.

BTW, Boingo PROVIDES the service for Verizon, but this doesn;'t mean that the srvice is the same as Boingo.

I have to say, I really hate Saturdays and Sundays when I'm trying to procrastinate home work and there are only like 3 new articles on Giz.

@soccer1105: Indeed. During the M-F work week, not only are there many more Giz articles, but the number of readers/comments goes skyrocketing--all those "workers" not actually, you know, working.

These "sources familiar with the matter", are they anything like Angel's "the powers that be"? 'Cuz we all know how trustworthy they were.
