Is the more correct title, Frank Doyle, retired FBI explosives expert, cool old dude, blew woman off couch? I would truly be scared if either Jamie or Adam ever handled REAL explosives.

I never liked the MythBusters, in part because having worked in TV production, it is blatantly obvious to me how staged all of their supposedly candid experiments and such are. But more than that, I think it's sad how few ideas they seem to have left, and would like to see them just stop. Blowing someone's socks off is not, and has never been a myth. It is a cliché. If they are going to start busting common phrases, American entertainment has really hit a new low.

@TheHeartless: A new low? Holy smokes man, you need to watch more TV...

Blowing someone's socks off is downright highbrow intellectual fare compared to some of the stuff I've flipped past... e.g., anything involving Paris Hilton; Real Housewives of Whatever County; religious programming of all kinds, anything involving theoretically-hidden-camera, shows involving dating, QVC...

@Thud: Yeah, I'm thinking Keeping up with the Kardashians or Make me a Supermodel might still be quite a bit lower than having some fun busting clichés and blowing stuff up with good humor.

    But that's just me.

There's fun quizzes and even a Goofus & Gallant:

Goofus tries to bombard U-238 to create plutonium. Gallant instead uses a uranium/graphite pile to make U-235 using slow-moving neutrons to break the nucleus

There's also a test to see if your friend is selling secrets to the Jerries and a way to have your parents put in internment camps for the duration of the war.

It's fun for the whole family!

I had an electronics "education" kit when I was a kid and I accidentally electrocuted my self. Granted I strayed a bit from the instructions to hop up the amps. Funny how those went away too. It was built into a wooden suitcase and consisted of a bunch of coils that you connect wires to to do different things. No plutonium though.

My next door neighbor and friend had old chemistry kits.

We used to do the experiments and it was awesome.

Old electronics kits too, with the wacky old components with a colored dot code on them.

    Classic stuff, all good. :)

I've seen tests with these containers dropped from great heights from a crane. They really are immensely tough and reliable. Good thing too, since the ones I saw tested would contain a slurry of liquid waste, not just boxes of old fuel rods and the like!

I think it's not a Russian test. The Russian in the caption is the cyrillic phonetic translation of the English "Crash Test". Russians would use native Russian language words.

Actually you're all wrong. There may be Russian text associated with this video but the test itself is 100% British, my friends. The loco is, I believe a Pacific-class diesel, workhorse of the British railway system for many years. When you see the loco in the side view, the white, double-arrowed logo on the side is the logo of British Rail, until recently the state-owned operator of all train services in the UK.

This was probably test carried out by BNFL (British Nuclear Fuels Ltd) using a retired BR engine for propaganda purposes in the 80s ie look how safe our spent nuclear fuel is even when hit by a train.
