If 7 sucks so much as apple says, why supporting it? Does apple need it to sell its computers? #bootcampwindows7

@SewerShark: LOOK BEHIND YOU, A THREE HEADED MONKEY!!!: Of course Apple needs to sell its computers. Apple has always believed their OS is better than Windows and yet they've had Boot Camp for as long as Macs have been Intel based.

    I can't believe you get a star and I don't #bootcampwindows7

@ndonahue: I think you lost the point of my reply.
If OSX is by far so superior to Windows, why does apple still support boot camp? OSX would but just enough for your every need.
Just because apple can't prove that OSX is, in fact, better than Windows (I'm not stating that OSX suck, BTW), they need to support boot camp to sell their computers to the newcomers and try to lure them into OSX.

And no, the first Intel based Macs did not had boot camp. #bootcampwindows7

@SewerShark: LOOK BEHIND YOU, A THREE HEADED MONKEY!!!: I stand corrected on when Boot Camp was released

Apple, Inc is both a hardware company and a software company. If supporting Windows 7 and Boot Camp convinces people to buy a Mac, then Apple wins.

Each user can see the 2 OSes side-by-side and judge for themselves. If someone prefers Win7, Apple still sold them a machine. #bootcampwindows7

@ndonahue: I never said that apple loses by supporting Windows 7. I think its great that mac have boot camp.
What I'm aiming is at the Mac vs PC campaign.
If apple focused their campaign on the OSX's qualities, instead of the opponent's flaws, I would be ok with it.

Anyway, don't worry about the star thing...A star don't make you a better commenter. #bootcampwindows7

@jasonliang: What does that have to do with anything? I use OS X for pretty much everything, and it works fine. It's just that I occasionally wanna play an indie game, and Win7 looks to be a lot prettier than XP. I boot into XP maybe once every few months to play Portal. It's a non-issue. #bootcampwindows7

Why no windows 7 for Pre 2006 macs? I have an original Macbook pro 2.0 core duo and I'm able to run Windows 7 RC1 in bootcamp perfectly fine? Why wont it work in the new Boot Camp? Do they mean it wont be "supported" or wont work at all? #bootcampwindows7

"Some older iMacs and MacBooks Pro (2006 vintage, with Intel processors) will be unable to support Windows 7 running in Boot Camp for whatever reason"

This is purely speculation by good 'ole SE, but it could be that those macs used Intel Core Duo chips instead of Core 2 Duo, that latter of which allows for 64 bit goodness. #bootcampwindows7

@Nick Sweet: You can if you want, but you'd be limited to a 32GB capacity partition. NTFS allows you to split the hard drive directly in half if you actually plan to do quite a bit with Windows. #bootcamp

Does that student deal - for the $30 Windows 7 - work if you don't already have a version of Windows? Or is it upgrade only?

(I know Snow Leopard boasted "upgrade only" but it was actually the full OS, and I want to know if this is the same case)

Nice. That was one of the main issues I had with using Boot Camp. At least with VMware, I could just drag and drop files from Mac and copy it to the Windows workspace, or use the Z:/ folder that VMware made in Windows to provide direct access to the Mac.
