"first real robot for girls." is a totally false statement. They're 20 years too late. I had a Teddy Ruxpin and loved it. As far as I knew, it responded to my "voice commands" and would move around (aided by me). I also loved my brother's Transformers BEAUCSE they weren't pink.
Penbo, an adorable interactive and waddling penguin robot who surprises little girls when she lays an egg...a perfect robot companion for little girls to nurture.
Oh. My. God. Did we just fall through a perilous timewarp back to the '50s? I can only hope that this pink, gender-ghastly monstrosity lays an enormous fiscal egg for its incredibly backwards-thinking misogynist developers.
I'm not sure which is more irritating, the idea that a girl would naturally be drawn to this because it's pink and has babies or the fact that somebody might keep this away from my nephew (who would love it - because it's awesome, and he's three) because he is not a girl.
That's right kids... the difference between things made for boys and things made for girls is their ability to ovulate. So for those keeping score - Snakes = for girls. EZ Bake = boys.
@burninator: You make an excellent point. Perhaps the developers could think more educationally and include a set of cute little bright pink condoms to go with it.
@burninator: If "Juno" taught us anything, it's that clever does not equal smart. It probably was all snarky and ironic, but at the end of the day, just self-absorbed.
Of course, I'm talking about Diablo Cody, not Ellen Page's character.
Is this really considered bipedal just because there are leg-like things that pop in and out? The wheels disguised as arms don't really make it any more amazing than all the remote control cars out there that do the same sort of acrobatics. I was expecting to see the thing actually using its legs to move.
What about Robosapien (v1 and v2)? Does it not count as a bipedal robot? And seriously, "To make this kind of technology available to children is unprecedented..." Seems as though WowWee beat them to the punch, in my opinion.
WowWee has been pushing the boundaries of interactive robotic toys for quite some time now. Robosapien v2 and Roboraptor are both fairly advanced for toys, as well as the Robosapien RS Media model.

So the Penbo is racist?

Girl: Aw cool! A robot that...activates on touch...and shoots...babies? Where's the bike I wanted?
