Honestly the torrent functionality is amazing. Now if you want to watch top gear which isnt available in the u.s. just go and download the torrent with the box. By the way what torrent client does boxee use anyone know??? All I know is that apple should take a hint at this and form a colaboration and make the apple tv actually awsome. just imagine if they had an "app store" for the apple tv.

@semicolin: It uses rTorrent. There are web front ends you can do too, but those can get kind of dicey to install. Team Boxee plans on integrating torrents more closely into the UI in the future though.

"...can bring Netflix's massive library into your living room with zero download delays..."

You forget to mention the relatively massive downside to "zero download delays".

NetFlix's streaming video quality sucks. As in really sucks.

It's barely watchable in a browser window, terrible when blown up to full screen, and horrendous when expanded to typical living-room TV size. Compression artifacts galore. In fact, some of you may remember the days of trying to manipulate your TV's rabbit ears to capture a local broadcast TV station. The one fifty miles away. The one full of static and ghosts and roll.

    That bad.

@ghmlco: Too bad, it looks great on my 37" LCD. Is your TV gigantic? Your connection slow? This is all subjective obviously but I have been happy.

Can anyone already using this confirm or deny that this can play 1080p files.

@Tensor: 1080p it chokes on. Plays, but not at a framerate you'd want to watch a movie on. 720p appears to work just fine.

I never saw the point of Apple TV, especially if I'm paying $300 just to hack it. I'd pay $50 for it at most (I'm an Apple fan), but I'd rather just buy a couple external 7200 rpm hard drives, a TV tuner card, and stream television or online movies to an a now $350 Apple Cinema (early 2008)from eBay.

    Cool hack though.

@evangelistc01: That's what a C2D Mac Mini is for. Me, I'm saving up for an EyeTV and a couple other ministacks from Newer.

"Why Apple hasn't opened up the Apple TV to third party developers is anyone's guess..."

Because STEVE STILL KNOWS BEST!! Get it through your head putrid underling! It will be a cold day in hell before Steve sees ANYONE else fit to create software for his beautiful creations!

@waveman216: har har har. Yes, Emperor Matchstick not only cannot park, but he knows best... especially with 'media appliances' like the crAppleTV and the iPud Touch.

If you add function to any of these devices, you deprive Emperor Matchstick of his vaunted 'revenue' and should have your feet held to the fire. Just ask any Apple fanboi.

The Apple TV is starting to get more and more tempting.

Does anyone have one that can say it's worth it?
