The last time I tried Boxee, it was very buggy. Keep in mind that this was a very early release, so I'm bound to try it again soon and hopefully with much more positive results.
I'm not sure why but I absolutely love the design. I like that they left the ports on the back all askew, like the corner was really just chopped off. Also, I agree with HeartBurn down here ↓.... If they can keep the price at $200 for an ION, I'll be getting one.
@Segador: the thing is that design, although pretty, is not to practical. My shelves/spaces are not really designed to hold something like this in a which would create a aesthetic tv center, which would deem the aesthetics of this box useless.
That is one funky looking box. The design doesn't really make sense to me for its intended purpose. Yes, it is edgy and eye catching, but I don't see it fitting in too well in a media center.
I like the box-sinking-into-the-table design. I'd say it looks best from the back but I don't want to set myself up for any "that's what he said" jokes.
@Bos'un's Mate: That's pretty awesome. I want to live in it. I haven't been to New York in a long time and I never saw news of that in any of the art blogs I go, so I've never seen that. Thanks for introducing me to it.
@Nathan Obbards: You might prefer to live in Malcolm Cochran's 30' wine bottle, Private Passage, over by the Hudson River. The interior comes complete with a bunk, kitchenette, lounge chair, and shitter. [www.nycfoto.com]
@Bos'un's Mate: Both are pretty awesome, but I'd be willing to bet the buried apartment is warmer in winter and cooler in summer than the wine bottle. That and a little bit more private.
@Lite: hates Illinois Nazis: Not just stupider. Wayyy lots o' stupider. An stuff.
There goes that Masters Degree in one 5 minute YouTube video. Shit. #boxeebox
@Lite: hates Illinois Nazis: Are you trying to say that the PS3 doesn't do EVERYTHING? If so, you might want to watch your back from now on, Sony might be onto you. #boxeebox
@joe.glass: IMO, XBMC is better for local media. Admittedly I haven't tried too hard with Boxee, but I was up and running with XBMC and my ripped DVD collection pretty quickly. Not to mention, in the fantastic MediaStream skin.
Meanwhile, Boxee's greatest strength is with streaming video. Sadly, the one thing both of them lack is Hulu, so that's not so great. Still, Boxee will give you access to more streaming video than you knew existed out of the box. If that's of interest to you, start with Boxee. #boxeebox
@schrosa: Is that official, and if not, for how long? Last time I checked, Hulu (or more accurately the people behind Hulu) were less than keen on Hulu being streamed to televisions. Last I heard, they blocked methods of getting Hulu on to televisions, not the least of them Boxee.
If this policy has changed, I'd be more than happy to hear it. But as I recall Hulu integration was, at best, unreliable. #boxeebox

And the apps and the web streaming is great. Its awesome having a pandora app in a media center that just works. #boxeebox
