Obviously, though repaired, it has issues. In 2001 (age 32), I was diagnosed with arthritis - the cartilage had degenerated. They started giving me annual injection series of "Syn-Visc", a synthetic cartilage. At the time, my Sports Medicine doctor said they could currently regrow about 1+ inch size of cartilage (about a Quarter) in the lab, but she anticipates that within 10 years, they'll be able to replenish my entire missing cartilage.
Good thing, since the Syn-Visc has a diminishing helpfullness.
I'm now down to about 6 months between injection series. Sadly, according to my Doctor, they are nowhere farther along now than they were in 2001, as nobody anticipated the COMPLETE SHUTDOWN in regenerative research.
So, now I'm 39, and very worried I may lose my knee before medicine can replenish the missing cartilage.
