Black Mirror is the kind of show you want to watch knowing almost nothing about. The first images from the third season are perfect in that regard, because they give only a tiny hint at what’s to come—just enough to make you want more.
Watching Pete’s Dragon is a very enjoyable experience. It’s a simple story, told well, with gorgeous cinematography, beautiful music, and strong performances. But if calling it “an enjoyable experience” makes you think there’s something off about the movie, well, then you’re absolutely right.
The dragon has to be furry. That was the first thing director David Lowery thought when he decided he wanted to remake Pete’s Dragon. The second thing was that he did not want to just remake Pete’s Dragon. He wanted to take the story and bring it to a new generation. He’ll get his shot on August 12.
You wouldn’t be alone if you were skeptical when you heard the words “live-action remake of Pete’s Dragon.” But it seems director David Lowery may have pulled off the impossible—he may have made a live-action remake that actually improves on the animated original. This new trailer is just more glorious proof.
Charlie Brooker’s masterful show Black Mirror has always featured top talent. Then, in its most recent episode, it went a bit Hollywood by casting Mad Men’s Jon Hamm. Now, with the show returning to Netflix, even more massive talent is along for the ride, both in front of and behind the camera.

It's only a taste (the first full trailer is due out Thursday), but it's got footage of the park! And dinosaurs! And dramatic Bryce Dallas Howard! And vest-wearing Chris Pratt!
