These look like so much fun. There is a set of toys called Connects (I think) that are magnetic bars that you can use to build stuff. I have, er, um, my KID has a blast with those. (One of the major up-sides to being a parent are the cool toys.)
@Beef Bacon...?: Lego sets are not really meant for kids (at least not from what I hear around Giz). There are MANY GizLegomaniacs so you are in good company. (And dont EVER call them Legos here, they flip out and go all postal on you!)
