But for $120, the money may be better spent on a nice vintage...or maybe like a lifetime supply of Miller High Life. [Charles&Marie via Nerd Approved]

<![CDATA[New GE Light Within a Light Is Like Ship In a Bottle]]> General Electric's new Energy Smart CFL.fluorescent light is one of those things that makes you scratch your head and wonder: How the hell do they do that? A fluorescent spiral lamp into a traditional bulb?

John Strainic, global product general manager, won't say. He just says that the manufacturing process is the result of "very advanced patents". As you can see in the video, the fluorescent spiral is housed inside the typical incandescent light bulb glass—which will be frosted in the final version—along with the necessary electronics to make it work.

It seems to me like the typical looks-cool-but-I-don't-know-if-it's-useful-or-what invention that may take the market by storm or sit on shelves gathering dust forever. It will be available at Target and selected Ace Hardware stores next January, and around "Earth Day 2009" (which in case you didn't know—like me—is April 22) everywhere else. [GE Lighting]

<![CDATA[Luxim's 250W Tic-Tac Sized Bulb Blows Away 400W LEDs]]> Luxim's new bulb may only be the size of a Tic-Tac, but this little bugger can crank out way more light at 250 watts than a traditional 400 watt LED. It can achieve this feat thanks to gas that is heated inside the bulb via electrical energy delivered to it by a "puck." As the gas turns to plasma, the bulb is illuminated. However, since most of the energy is not lost to heat, the light can reach a high level of brightness. In fact, it can produce up to 140 lumens per watt which is twice that of an LED and around 10 times that of a standard bulb. Impressive. Hit the link to see the light in action. [CNET and Luxim]

<![CDATA[How to Build Your Own Ice Bulb]]>

How To Make An Amazing Glowing Ice Bulb - video powered by Metacafe

It's not entirely practical, having a lightbulb made of ice, but it sure is cool and will entertain the kids for hours on end. All it essentially is is an LED embedded inside a sphere of ice connected through some wires to a battery. You make it by placing the contraption inside water, which is placed inside a balloon, which is placed inside your freezer. A fun project for the coming summer months.

<![CDATA[Electric Bulb Bulb]]> Amuse friends and confuse toddlers with this bizarre Lamp/Lamp design. Cool if you plug it in "correctly", potentially dangerous if you plug it in "incorrectly".

On a similar note, we'd like to see someone mod a Toyota Camry and flip everything around, putting the steering column in the back right seat so it looks like you're driving in reverse.

<![CDATA[Hidden Light Bulb Camera Makes It Hard To Spy On Faces]]> Fitting a hidden camera in a light bulb is a great idea. Because it attaches to the main electrical system, there's no need for batteries. And, since it's already in the wall, you can wire it up to whatever you want. Since it's a light bulb, it'll always be light enough to get good spy shots on whoever you're peeping. The only downside is nobody ever really looks directly at a light bulb, so you're never going to get anyone straight on. Otherwise it's not too bad.

Available now for $139.99.
