@zenpoet: Above narrative aside, indeed. What are you going on about, Mark? It sounds like you need to work something out with your grandmother, and your tech-blog isn't the place for that.
@Nick: I love Nick: Sure, but what are you going to do when you have him crying on your shoulder, snot bubbles bursting against your collar, when she when she makes a thanksgiving casserole with Huey the Hampster in it?
Or maybe it is just a casserole, and our dear friend Mark just forgot to take his blue pill that morning.
I did like the narrative though. Very Woot.com ish.
Lets see 20 people, times say 170lbs apiece, thats almost 3500lbs thats swinging from one side of the bridge to the other changing its direction of pull in the process.
Sounds like a great idea, get these kids to test out bridges.
@Adam Shegrud: You must also keep in mind what a bridge normally goes though. First it carries a train, that's the biggest load. then the wind shear forces, etc. I'm sure the tensile strength of this steel will hold an extra 3500lbs, regardless of direction
@Adam Shegrud: Gee, I wonder how much two trains weigh? Oh and at one point there WERE two trains crossing the bridge, OMG! and they were going in opposite directions! Evacuate the bridge!!! AAAAHHHHHH ZOMG RUN!!!!
@Sean Baxter: kids on monkey bars aren't dangling above rock hard ice a hundred feet in the air, supported only by a rope anchored to something that is NOT meant to be used as an anchor.
@Brian Agalsoff: If they're using a beam from a bridge (that supports trains), i'm pretty sure it'll support the weight of a human, or even 20. This isn't as dangerous as people are making it out to be.
