British Artist Paints Using RC Cars As His Brushes

And you thought Etch-a-Sketch was tough. Ian Cook made this portrait of a Chevy Camaro by soaking the wheels of remote controlled cars in paint and then painstakingly driving them around on his canvas. He also uses full-size tires to fill in large blocks of color, but still, the results are pretty amazing—if you've ever tried to ambush your unsuspecting cat with an RC you know how tricky precision maneuvering can be. He's currently camped out at the London Motor Show doing portraits of cars (meta!). The work is especially admirable when you see it coming together in this video, stroke by radio-controlled stroke. Air Force Dismantles Crashed C-130 in Military-Style: With Lots of Explosives

What do you do with a C-130 cargo aircraft that has made a crash-landing in an insecure area of Iraq? If you're the 447th Expeditionary Operations Support Squadron you wire it with explosives and you blow it up. Again and again and again... until it's in small enough bits to load onto a flatbed and ship back to an air base. Apparently it's pretty rare for an aircraft to make emergency landings in the field, which is good news. Though if it resulted in more videos like this, we wouldn't complain. Garmin Oregon Touchscreen GPS, First Images Emerge

Monday's leak of info about Garmin's upcoming Oregon touchscreen GPS line has now been followed by some images and screenshots. And though the mapping functions pretty much follow the earlier Colorado line, the units look very different—apparently being pretty buttonless indeed. For walkers, the 200 is a simple basemap unit, the 300 has worldwide maps with shaded relief, while the 400t adds in preloaded U.S. topographic maps and a 3D view. The 400i has maps for US inland lakes and the worldwide basemap, while the 400c has BlueChart® g2 coastal charts for sea-farers. New Garmin Line Leaked

It appears that retailers have leaked Garmin's upcoming GPS line. Amazon had listed relatively blank pages of the new 200, 300, 400c, 400i and 400t while Buy.com got even more specific with complete details on the Garmin Oregon 200 ($450) and Garmin Oregon 400C ($600). Apparently the Oregon is very similar to Garmin's Colorado (pictured here). The 3-inch, 240x400 pixel screen seems identical with the most noticeable upgrades coming in form factor—as GPSTracklog points out, the Oregon is one inch shorter and half an ounce lighter than the Colorado. Sony Ericsson C905 8.1-Megapixel Cybershot Phone Gets Official Specs

Twice we've brought you leaked info on Sony Ericsson's upcoming C905 cellphone, and today at last Sony came good with official specs. The camera in its slider body is indeed an 8.1-megapixel one, with xenon flash, auto-focus, face detection and image stabilization. The phone's also pretty full-featured, and is GPS-ready, with a 2.4-inch TFT screen and TV-out capability as we'd heard. So is it a camera with a bolt-on phone or the other way around? Read the specs in the press release to decide. Simultaneously, Sony came up with news of the S302 Snapshot, which sounds like a lower-spec sibling to the C905 with just 2-megapixels and a fixed-focus lens. Both should be available late this year. Berkeley Group Uses iPhone to Control UAV Squadron

The Center for Collaborative Control of Unmanned Vehicles (C3UV—the "3" makes it hip) at the University of California, Berkeley has developed a system that uses the iPhone to develop tasks, set coordinates and send orders to a fleet of UAVs. Naturally, this development is interesting because it allows a single person to control a large number of small, unmanned aircraft at one time using a cellphone. But, as Wired points out, the clause in the SDK agreement clearly states that "autonomous control of vehicles, aircraft, or other mechanical devices" is a big no-no. The guy who played with it says it's 20mm (0.78 inches) thick and weighs 136 grams (0.29 pounds), which isn't all that bad if you're taking into account the fact that it's also an 8.1-megapixel camera. According to the Unofficial Sony Ericsson blog, the upcoming C905 phone will be the flagship Sony Ericsson Cyber-shot phone. Here's why it's so good. There's a 8.1-megapixel camera with "auto focus, face recognition, a new feature called Smart Contrast, image stabilization, BestPic, red-eye reduction, xenon flash as well as photoflash for both photos and videos."
