Fuji, Iwate Prefecture, et al) enhances my calm while upholding my personal belief that HD video on DSLRs is one of the best things to happen to cameras in recent history.

Entitled (autumn), the video was shot, as I said, around Mount Fuji and other beautiful Japanese locales. The music is trippy, the visuals crisp, and the people move about very quickly as clouds play about their heads. Enjoy. [Vimeo - Thanks, Sam]

]]> http://gizmodo.com/index.php?op=postcommentfeed&postId=5425288&view=rss&microfeed=true <![CDATA[It's Official: The Canon 5D Mk II Will Turn Us All Into Professional Cinematographers]]> Yeah, sure, it was cool to see a professional photographer spin HD video gold from the Canon 5D Mark II. But that guy is famous, had a mountain of equipment, a crew, and a freaking helicopter. Not so for the humble photographer and videographer at Akihabara News, who took the 5D, a few days and a laptop to shoot and splice together this stunningly beautiful five minute video.

The results are spectacular, and really drive home the point that with this $2700 camera, anyone with an eye for shooting and a laptop can create a cinematographic masterpiece. There is a discernible and annoying shake in some shots, but nothing that couldn't be remedied with a little jury rigging.

Make sure to enable the HD and smoothing options in the embed, and check out the second half of the video for more evidence that the 5D's low-light capabilities are completely unreal. Another lesson learned from this video: even the most amazing shots can be ruined by unsettling facial hair. Deal with it, Monsieur Akihabara. [Akihabara News]

Just yesterday, he deigned to visit the RED forums, promising that "[RED is] doing things we never thought possible... When we do post, it will be very obvious why we needed a bit more time to 'spill the beans'." As a teaser, he decided to spill two of those beans early, in the form of vague, zoomed-in renders of RED's new HIV-curing, hunger-ending, climate-stabilizing übercamera.

Owners of any number of popular DSLRs will notice some familiar controls in these renders, but what does that mean? It seems obvious that Jannard's lovable breathlessness is for his new RED DSLR (or DSMC, I guess), and that his enthusiasm hasn't been diminished in light of the stunning video performance of Canon's 5D DSLR. RED certainly has a track record of innovation, but could Canon have beat them to the DSLR HD video punch? [RedUser via Crunchgear]

No real details to this camera other than the fact that it's going to replace the 5D (obviously). See the back after the jump, but don't expect a "make me a professional photographer" button or anything.
