This is excellent. I wanted to buy the TomTom app originally, but it took so long and I had several road trips planned for the summer so I ended up buying the Navigon app (which works rather well and is just as good as TomTom based on my experiences).
If I can use the TomTom Car Kit with the Navigon app then I am very very happy.
Now lets see how much they charge for the Car Kit.
if only this provided a line out (or at least doesn't obstruct the headphone jack) i might seriously consider hocking my tomtom and just using this.
I don't like leaving my GPS in the car since it 'draws flies', as it were. im also always forgetting to charge the touch. that's three birds with one stone, so far. let's just hope it all works out and that this thing isn't prohibitively expensive.
@nutbastard: So I'm guess there isn't a charging peripheral, or access to insert the charger at the same time? That's my biggest pet peeve with low-end gps, is that you need to replace the charging cable each time you use it, assuming you stow it when you're not in your car (to keep the flies away).
I get the feeling they're really trying to push their hardware for quasi-legitimate reasons. If my phone can track me through a forest on my bike with accuracy down to a few feet, as well as get a fix in seconds in midtown manhattan this past week, I'd say the GPS chip performs well enough.
For ipod touch and 1st gen iphone owners, it's worth it if you need GPS. Beyond that and it seems like an (extremely) overpriced window mount.
If the car adapter is basically just a GPS receiver, will it work with other GPS software (I'm guessing probably not)? I have the TomTom software for my WinMo devices and it works extremely well.

The carkit will do most everything and I'll use it with the google maps app...
The only thing I think I wont have is voice, but that isn't worth 99 dollars for me.

i'm not sure if any other app will recognize the dongle - anyone know otherwise?

and the loss of that one device now screws you more than ever. there goes your GPS, your phone, and your ipod.
it's foolish to put all yer eggs in one basket - especially when that basket is extremely expensive and extremely fragile.
